Here’s a new one, “ jwdub” on AdvRider mounted a Suzuki Burgman shield on his ST.

Just like seats, gotta find what works.

Well, I took my stock screen off today and went for a ride. The immediate impression was how quiet it was with no buffeting whatsoever. Up to around 60mph, it is lovely and quiet, cruising at 80mph, well your neck muscles get a work-out and you do need a strong grip too because you get the wind blast full in the chest band bugs and stones can hurt, but it is still so much quieter than riding with the stock screen and no buffeting at all.

So now, I need to decide what to do, go small with something like the MRA screen and spoiler or go large, maybe a Givi or a Puig.

My experience is identical to yours, lovely and quiet, higher speeds get tiresome. I took my mirrors off because they directed turbulent air to the sides of my helmet. Installed some bar-end mirrors.
(Ignore the white windscreen, just an experiment that didn't work.)

I am 5’10”, 32 in inseam

I have tried cutting my 2014 screen down at multiple levels, I could get rid of buffeting but the noise would only get worse it seemed. I have tried the madstad bracket win my cut down screen as well as national cycle sport touring vstream for 2014+. Nothing satisfactory. After reading EricV’s reply above about the adjuster causing more issues I have converted my bike back to the previous generation mounting. I also bought an mra vario touring screen. This is the best setup so far, but it is slightly louder than I would like. If I duck down a couple inches it’s great. I am now thinking I need a slightly taller screen mounted like a gen 1. Tired of spending money to fix this one issue but I like the bike otherwise.

Has anyone my size tried both the cal sci medium 22” for gen 1 and a vstream medium sport touring for gen 1?

I guess riding mega miles with little or no windscreen over the years has paid off. I can peel off an easy 500+ mile day in pure luxury. I have the Madstad bracket and OEM screen. I'm also very picky with my helmets. IMO a good helmet for your riding position is more important.

Hmm. So what happens on a Gen 2 if you block off the gap at the bottom of the screen? Anyone tried that to see if it helps with the buffeting?

Edit, I know there needs to be some airflow underneath to prevent backpressure, but has anyone tried putting some sort of partial blocker on it, like a wind lip on the bottom, instead of the top?

Commuter Boy, I agree, there needs to be airflow under the screen too in order to alleviate back pressure. I notice that the new Kawasaki Versys 1000 has a NACA type vent in it’s screen too.

richarddacat, thanks for that, I’ll take a look on the Adventure Rider forum.

I’m 5’10” and happen to be using the medium sized VStream with the stock Yamaha generation 2 mounting system, wearing an Arai XD helmet , next to no wind buffeting , my only complaint is the shield is tinted and I would prefer clear but it’s not available in clear, at least it wasn’t last fall . Other than the tint I am very well satisfied with my medium size VStream.
on my previous 2013 I used the tall VStream, it was clear and worked excellent but I always thought one inch shorter might work better for me that’s why I bought the medium size for my 2018.

This screen that I mounted is positioned about an inch under the add on Wings.
No back pressure very clam cockpit. I’m looking over the screen with my face shield up, no bugs. Air on arms.
My setup, I think, is close to what a Parabellum would be.

It sure would be interesting to try all the possible options but yikes that would cost a fortune !
I have always had the Yamaha wind deflectors on my Tenere’s but I did test ride one without the deflectors and missed them right away, at least for me those deflectors make a very noticeable difference.
