Hey guys, my cruise control has suddenly become intermittent...mostly inoperative. When I push the cruise button the indicator light on dash flashes quickly and it doesn't work. Is there something simple to check or just get it into a dealer under warranty? Ugh! Thanks!

When CC button is pressed, CC system indicating light (yellow speedo) will come on solid, regardless of brake and clutch switches.

If it flashes quickly instead, that means there are fault codes. You need to go from there. Sorry can't help more than this...

What year is your bike?

Early bikes can be interrogated for fault codes &, using 'search' on here, you can get an understanding of the likely problem. Later machines have an OBD port, requiring a code reader or dealer visit.

Could there be a bad crimp on wire pin? I have a diesel truck that has a chip and a year ago it started loosing power intermittently. Turned out it was a bad crimp on a pin and that was causing the chip to think something else was going on and cutting the amount of fuel to the engine. Maybe this is what is happening to the CC.

+1 on the front brake switch most likely being the problem. Search for the mega thread started by Sigeye where we came up with test procedures and fault diagnosis for flashing CC light combined with code 90, although in his case the problem was with the clutch switch.

Yea that's for CC system indicator. The CC setting indicator (Green SET) will be on when pressing SET only if speed/gear/brake/clutch switches are in allowed ranges/states.

My 2018 did the same thing for a while. It hasn't done it lately (jinx). Not sure what caused it or what made it stop doing it. I did find that I could pull over turn the key off and back on and the CC light would stop flashing and remain on thus allowing me to use CC again. If it starts doing it again, I'll have to delve into it deeper.

So in your previous post, it should have been "green speedo";)
Now I understand

I had the same problem on my 2016 ES a couple years ago... the problem was the clutch switch sticking...I removed the lever, lubricated the pin... and problem solved!

Hope this helps...

Well, jinx was right. I went for ride today and at one point during the ride the CC light started flashing. I turned the key off while sitting at a light and the CC light stopped flashing. I'll check the clutch switch to see if it's sticking.

I have had same problem for a few months. Took to yamaha unfortunatly fault code isn't specific. Could be clutch switch, front brake switch or rear brake switch. They thought iit was clutch switch and replaced under warranty, sadly it started playing up again, took it back and they couldn't narrow down the fault, and couldn't replicate, but suspect front brake switch. Have been told to just keep using and bring back after it plays up a few more times. Strangely it hasn't since. My warranty is nearly expired but i have been reassured they have logged the job, so yamaha will honour this as a warranty repair even after warranty has expired so that put my mind at ease.

Don't forget the throttle switch Sunnyboy. It de-activates CC if you forcibly close the throttle beyond the normal stop.

BTW, do check the throttle cables are adjusted correctly.

My 2015 have done it a few times (maybe 20 times in 5 years/110.000 km).
If I turn the ignition off/on it works again.

I suspect that it's because of a sticky brake or clutch switch, so when it happens I lube all the pins.

Not a big issue, as I have learned to just pull the clutch while rolling, turn the key off/on, push the starter and reengage the clutch - it's a 5 sec procedure.

Mine is acting up. The yellow light (round button) comes on, no flashing, but the 'set' button doesn't work. After several miles it will work again. It is progressively getting worse. I have an appt in 2 weeks...I hope they can fix it, I've got a lot of trips stacked up (I know, I know, first world problems...) :)
