Looking to pick up a set of crash bars for the new bike and wanted to do a spot of research before making up my mind. Let me know what you think of what you have or what you've seen.

Thanks

Alt Rider here too. Very clean and easy to service my bike. OTOH I really do believe that there is no better crash bar protection than the Rumbux setup. The stuff just looks to be bombproof!!

I also think EricV is a distributor of the Rumbux line of protection.

For the skid plate I also have ALT Rider. Now if you got the dough and want the very best, strongest skid plate that offers the most protection then the RideOn is the only choice. Jaxon (TABASCO) custom fabs them. I'm sure he has some kind of jig. But holy crap! It's huge thick plates of aluminum welded together. It will turn the Super Tenere into a rock tank.

Sadly, Rumbux is no longer in production. And yes, the Ride On ADV skid plate is bomb proof! 1/4" aluminum plate.

Skid plates - ACD, RaveTech, T-Rex racing. all are frame mounted instead of sump mounted. That's a really Good Thing™

No kidding? That is a bummer. I almost got a set. It was between the Rumbux and ALTRider....

Last September I gave the GIVI crash guards a thorough test. At 09:30 on the Trans Canada highway traveling east towards Banff, Alberta, I found an icy bridge over the Bow River. The bike wiggled twice and then it just disappeared and I was suddenly on my back sliding across the bridge deck at 90 kph. When the world outside my visor stopped moving I found my S10 about 30 meters further down the road and two of three cases smashed and separated from the bike and a broken mirror. The GIVI crash guard took the brunt of the impact and saved the right side of the bike. I was able to continue my trip home to Cape Breton and replaced the guard with the same. I also replaced the mirror, the scuffed hand grip bushguard and both rightside foot pegs. Lesson learned...September is too late for traversing the Rocky Mountains in Canada.

Alt rider here. Tested a number of times off road, and works great. Rattle can of paint, and beyond 2', it is hard to see all the scratches.

ALT Riders here as well with an ACD Racing Parts skid plate.
I have not dropped my bike as of yet but the original owner that I bought my S10 from had a gravel path tip over while parked and there was just some scratches and gouges in the ALT Riders that I have since touched up with a black sharpie.

I also crashed with GIVI crash bars. Did a good job.
I wish I had a skid plate. Oil leakage underneath.

I've had SW Motech bars which are nothing more than bike jewlrey and complete worthless crap. Givi bars, which I would not hesitate to buy again. They've gone from my wife's 2012 to her 2017 and have had a number of tip overs with no ill effects. My current AltRider bars are excellent.

My original 2012 Tenere started life with a number of SW Motech accessories. Crash bars were weak and bent too much to be trusted after the first fall in mud at slow speed. The side case rack broke, was replaced under warranty, and broke again. Surprisingly, the skid plate is a decent light duty plate. I would trust it for anything challenging, but for my wife riding The Dalton or easy forest roads, it's all she needs.

These are what I use. MASTECH P/N 103.009. I'm not an engineer, but I've seen how "stuff" reacts in crashes. The Mastech bars use the same anchor points that the OE "little piece of plastic" uses. Since I trust Yamaha to know where the bike is designed to take a hit, the Mastech bars made sense to me. They bolt together, and support each other, and are attached to the bike's strong points. I asked a Yamatech what he thought of them, and even questioned the attachment point to the block. His opinion, and mine, is that if you crash hard enough to break the block where they attach, the rest of the bike is probably equally destroyed. So, for less then $200.00 (US) I think they will provide all the protection that "I" need. They also allow access to the battery/tools without removal.

I have T-rex with sump guard and am very pleased with them, T-rex is a great company to work with and the sump guard and bars seem bullet proof.. Highly recommended.

I like those Mastech bars. I never heard of them. I've had no problems with my SW Motech bars, and they protected my bike on an 80 MPH deer strike crash but those Mastech look better although they don't cover the top of the radiator as well.

…. although they don't cover the top of the radiator as well.
I may end up proven wrong, but I don't THINK they will get pushed into the radiator in a hard go-down. Meanwhile they provide a little bit more stand off from the ground for some of the other parts. I'm also thinking that if whatever I hit, or crash into, gets past the bars....the radiator is likely the least of my worries.
