How many people are in? If reserving at KOA it should be done as soon as possible. It looks like some of their tent sites are already reserved. You can count me in. Riding bike there and tent camping.

I tried calling, KOA is closed for the season until May-1. So no group reservation can be arranged until then, if at all. Individual campsites can be reserved online now but $39 a night. No way I'm paying that much to tent camp. Can be up to 4 adults per campsite but typically they limit tent/vehicles per campsite.

I don't live in Colorado but I can call the KOA and see about setting aside some tent areas. someone else will have to plan the rides etc as this will be a new experience for me riding there!
If you like, I'm pretty sure I still have all my Rally info from 2013. I can provide you with the owners names, Etc, etc. Very nice folks.

Count me in, maybe we can get a list going on a new "fist post"? Maybe a moderator can help us do that ?

So are we going to use these dates? July 26th, 27th and 28th. if we want a couple days earlier then 24th and 25th as well. I'm still in. Anything I can do to help?

Dates look good to me. I can get away after the 24th. How big of an event are we shooting for? Do you guys want raffles, catered meals, hotels, and the works? Or is this a simple get together, camp and bring your own stuff? I’m about 8 hrs away so hard to organize for me. Plus I’ve never attended a ride/rally so don’t really know what to expect.

I think simple is better, let’s not make this rally like we are on Golwings:)

I called the KOA in Ouray left a message and haven’t heard anything yet. My thoughts are camping. If you want to stay in a hotel then maybe we can see about a block of rooms. We would need someone to plan some rides for us though as I’ve not ridden any dirt there.

Karson and I worked on the 2013 Rally for about six/eight months https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/the-big-colorado-2013-summer-gathering.5637/ It was a ton of work. The Tenere gathering we just got back from in Tellico, TN was nothing fancy, and was a blast. Great to see folks show up with common interest and ride all day.

I can see that it would be a ton of work. I would be happy with a spot to pitch my 2 man tent, meet some people with a passion for like bikes and riding/seeing somewhere I have never been.

It does pain me a bit to pay $40 a night to pitch a 4x6 tent. If the campground is nice, has showers and reasonable laundry and makes the experience enjoyable for a group the fee is worth it. If we could pitch two tents per site and half the cost even better.

I can see why the original poster deleted his post. Organizing such an event can be overwhelming.

If Debra is still the owner I'm sure she will remember the "Super Tenere" group, I bet we could get a group discount. I called the KOA number and the VM sounded like her voice, Ive not tried calling her cell phone.

I shared a tent space with another member, which help split the cost of attending, at the 2013 rally.
I've already reserved a tent spot for the 26th and 27th, I did it online, quick and easy, with a confirmation email.

I think the less we put into this as far as organizing, the better. Let's just all show up and have a good time.
No need for catered/special meals, or events. I think they do have BBQ there, at the KOA, on friday and saturday nights.

As for the routes posted above, most of those are paved roads, and ALL are great scenic, and curvy roads.
Those with street tires will appreciate them all.
For those with enduro/knobby tires, there is the Alpine loop, (which is listed above), Ophir pass, Imogene pass, hurricane pass, the corkscrew, california pass, owl creek pass, Last dollar road, I don't mention Black Bear pass because I've been down that on my Tenere and it was horrible. I seriously would not recommend attempting that on anything over 600 lbs. The steps aren't so bad, it's the loose stuff right after followed by the sharp right turn that gets ya.

Just my 2 cents...

Another option is Ridway State Park campground. It is 12 miles from Ouray. I called and tried to find some information about the place. It has a entrance fee, it has campgrounds available now, but is filling up fast and they are booking into August. Tent sites have a 10x10 pad with a maximum of two tents per site. The gal I talked to said that each site was for one car or truck and that two motorcycles= one car or truck. There are also RV spots available right now.

https://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/parks/Ridgway

I don't know the area, have never been there so take that into account.

I'm happy to reserve at the KOA if thats what the plan is. Things are filling up fast or are booked.
