Coil Stick

My bike is due it's 48k service

At the last service I was warned by the mechanic that one stick was starting to corrode and it might be better to replace it.

The price of a 'genuine Yamaha part' is £170 but I'm certain that they are not produced by Yamaha.

Does anyone know who actually makes them? Probably be a lot cheaper without the Yamaha packaging!

On UK eBay there are a lot of ads for unbranded Chinese copies for about £50....better to avoid these.

BUT

I've come across a Japanese? company called TourMax that make coil sticks for the S10 that sell for about £50

Anyone tried these or could recommend another pattern part company for coil sticks

Many thanks

Mike

I would expect that the genuine ones are made by Nippon Denso. Never heard of Tourmax but I'm sure others will be along with prognostications of doom for not using mama yammas' parts! As ever, you pays your money and takes your choice.

I would recommend cleaning off the corrosion add a dab of Gardner Bender OX-Gard and continue to use it. As long as they are within the ohm range then you are golden:

Primary range spec: 1.19-1.61 ohms
Secondary range spec 8.5-11.5 ohms

I replaced all 4 my coils with these, 30,000km ago. On 75,000km currently.

The secondary coil resistance should be k-ohms rather than ohms.

Also, Amazon carries low-price aftermarket ignition stick coils for the ST. They claim that the quality exceeds the OEM version.

I sprayed mine down with ACF-50 last time I had them out. There was no corrosion evident but this should add a layer of protection/prevention.
