Clutch switch

I was just sitting on the bike making broom broom noises (still on lockdown in Wales and I've a bad back so can't ride anyway) and I noticed there appears to be two switch positions on the clutch switch. If you lightly pull the lever a switch quickly engages which I assume is to unset the cruise control. If you keep pulling the lever in you can hear a 2nd click but this is well after the clutch is disengaged.

Any ideas what it's for? It doesn't really matter I was just curious. Its a 2016 Gen2 Non ES if it helps.

Thanks in advance!

Could it be to override the side stand switch, if you wanted to start it, clutch in/ in gear.

Just a thought.

Correct @Boris.

Notorious for failing, on this & many other bikes in my experience. The S10 has a double micro-switch arrangement, some just use a single.

Ah of course, didn't think of starting it in gear. Thanks for that

Apart from the other uses mentioned above for the second “click” of the clutch lever, there is the function of “making the gear shift disappear from the dash” when you keep pushing it…If they did it to create confusion, they made it!!!!…. :):)

Actually, changing gear without using the clutch will still show a dash momentarily from one gear to the next, so I guess neither of those micro switches have any effect on that, but if I remember correctly, for some reason, there is a slight engine mapping change when the clutch is pulled in.

IIRC the gear position indicator works by comparing wheel rotation/road speed with engine revs. It's a crude device, so can't do the calculation with the clutch pulled in. Let's hope for better if we ever get a Gen3.
