You mean the nut above the upper bracket first, and then the same upper bracket two Allen pinch bolts, right ?

Vous devez serrer l'écrou de direction supérieur tout d'abord, qui est le grand écrou face à vous.
Puis les écrous inférieurs.

Thank you for the translation effort ;)

So after tightened the steering column once again to the specified torque, retorqued all triple clamps bolts and nuts (in any order, the result is the same in my case), rechecked wheel axle and all these things, I finally had a "just-to-see" lil ride this afternoon, after what I just decided to do with that noise and voilà !!!
As simple as it is ::008::

I think excessive lower bracket pivot wear seems to be actually my problem (too much clearance within top bearing inner ring), in case it helps...

Thanx all for answering and have a good night/day ;D

Just would like to confirm that same problem "" Clicking noise over bumpy road"" on mine xt1200ze 2014 year appears after first year at about 10-12 K km and was solved after front fork proper alignment by myself this winter ( at 19 K km). It was about 1 mm difference between left and right legs heights. Please, take in mind, that for ZE (SE) model with electronic suspension compare with non electronic it is impossible to rotate fork legs as described at page 2 and looks it is not necessary. Sounds - gone. Checked week ago at unpaved and forest roads.
This is definitely the right solution. Personal thanks for Motostevie and Adogarza !

I have suggestion to move this topic to Suspension/Handling theme to made it easy accessible for others who don't use ear plugs.

1 month ago has changed my HJC IS-16 helmet to Schubert E1 - mentioned strange noise came back... Front fork legs are still good aligned. I could say - this noise is something similar like several small nuts ""playing"" inside metal box. Location of this noise - somewhere near tank front upper part - right side cowling, may even right side handlebar /front brake master cylinder reservoir (???).
First though - some small stones between engine and world crosser engine guard, after its disassembling and check - definitely not.
""Playing nuts"" appears only at sudden enough good front fork shocks at pavement , or at unpaved roads.
Front fairing, instrument panel, both sides under cowling areas - was properly checked. Looks all nuts/screws are properly tightened.
Could be something inside headlights, was checked - not.

I would like to add my thoughts to this, too. I checked the front suspension and everything is properly torqued. The sound is audible when going over small bumps but not big ones. It sounds like a nut or small pebble bouncing around from the area around the front of the fuel tank to the dash. Kind of annoying.

The next thought concerning this matter. Yes, you are right in most case - over small bumps.
I have found two possible sources:
1. front brake parts. About that I have found an info somewhere in chapter for brakes. Yes it is available when knocking by fist lower part of front fork leg. When pressing brakes - not available. But this noise sounds little different. I have trying to use front brakes when driving over bumps and sounds remains. Source - not a brake pads .
2. Horn. Its mounting double stainless steel plate vibrate when knocking horn. Sounds looks very similar. After horn dismounting and knocking it by finger - no vibration sound. Have put small piece of rubber between horn plate and mounting place. Vibration disappears. Will check what changed on bumpy road today and will post results.

PS. Schubert are definitely good helmets. But sometimes brings some additional troubles...

No. This is not a horn plate. Noise still available. Looks it is very near ""nose"". Somewhere at upper fairing area, not tank. Definitely not under side cowlings. Not a something on handlebar knocking it - silence. Odometer 23950 km. Hm... To be continued.

Same sound here on my 14 I just got new with about 2000 miles so far. Good to read the suggestions here, think I've had the same noise on a previous wee strom had awhile back. Get used to it, but it's annoying.

This was checked first by me, second by local Yamaha serviceman and for final sure by other moto serviceman - head bearings tightened properly.

Forgot to mention that it appears at unpaved and bad quality pavement roads. On good pavement roads - its not an issue.
By the way, local Yamaha serviceman don't heard it. This is normal position...

I just want to add that using the information in this post worked and the "clicking noise" is GONE. Followed the instructions on here and in the service manual relating to proper torque sequence and it fixed it. Finally, no more clicking going over bumps.

Came across this old thread, figured I'd give a little update. Wow, it was the summer of 2013 when I wrote about how I got rid of the annoying clicking sound.... sheesh, time goes by fast.
Well, since then I have not removed my forks or disturbed the pinch bolts at all. I did change the front tire a couple times, but happily the clicking has never come back yet. To me, this pretty much confirms that the noise was a result of something being off with the pinch bolts. I have to conclude that it was eliminated only by setting the proper torque of all the pinch bolts, and importantly, in the proper sequence as per the service manual.

Mine had a clicking noise over bumps, and I determined that it was the swingarm. I put the bike on the center stand, and I could grab the swingarm from the left side and literally pull it side to side along the shaft a fraction of an inch. I installed a washer behind the right swingarm pivot seal to eliminate the side-to-side slop, and the clicking stopped.

My bike has had a rattle somewhere around the cockpit for a 20k miles. Found it today. It was the headlight cover tapping my rigid light bar. Its been driving me nuts.

I found this thread in pursuing a noise around the bike I was hearing whilst riding over corrugated road conditions. My noise turned out to be something else but thought it worth mentioning that I too had the click when pumping the suspension off the bike. Curiously, I found the bolts under torqued. Followed the advice on this thread and now gladly can report the clicking has gone; a very useful thread. Thank you to all the contributors.

Just one thing. I take it others had to remove the small cowl plastic piece under the lights to access the lower bolts. Not had any experience of acorn/domed nuts. The ones on my bike seemed to take very little torque before jumping loose, and I thought I was being gentle. Did anyone else have this?

i must check mine, im noticing the "click" on harsh / sharp bumps, but bike handles fine in twisty / hard turns etc, even when being pushed on.

will report back this week or next.
