I cleaned my fork seal with a piece of 35mm film 2,000 kms ago and it started leaking again. I took the wheel and mudguard off this time and I think I did a better job of it as I was able to move the film around more.
150 kms later and no leak not even a trace of oil on my finger. Let’s see how long it lasts this time.

I just cleaned mine with a buddy's "Seal-Mate" while on the road in Utah. (they started leaking like crazy after riding the forest roads out to the north-rim Grand Canyon)
Used the seal-mate at a Hotel in Kanab, then took the bike to the car-wash down the street and got all the fork oil off everything.
Hasn't leaked the rest of the trip, rode some more dirt, and all the way back home.
Still dry!

I did it with the Fender on, and felt I did a decent enough job with it.
