I want to change the battery on my 2012. The bike has Givi crash guards installed. I can't get the old battery out. Seems like I have to remove the guards. Is there any secret to doing this with the crash guards still on?

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
I don't have Givi, but on my Happytrails bars, I took off the two bolts that go the the engine on the side, then loosened the front bolt enough to give me just that little bit of wiggle room to get the battery to slip past.

I could have probably left the engine bolts in and just loosened them all the way, but figured it was easier to just take them out and let it rotate around on the front one incase I needed the extra space.

Remove terminals, rotate battery 90º and pull it out the top. If the Givi is too tight for that, loosen the two bolts on the side and pull the bar out a bit.

One more reason I like my Mastech bars; good protection, and don't have to be removed/loosened.

I just took the two right side lower bolts and the bar will swing right up out of the way. No sweat at all.

Thanks all. Rotating the battery doesn't work. There's not much room there, PO installed a fuse block snug up to the battery on the right side. Not much clearance to rotate. But it sounds like removing a couple of bolts is NBD.

Manipulating the battery around has the off chance of shorting the posts somewhere as well. That would not be fun.
