I'm renewing my '14 S10 bit by bit and my next mini project is to remove and spray paint the center stand which seems to have a little surface rust accumulating on it. Removal and reinstallation LOOKS easy enough, but those springs might give me a hard time. Any of you guys done this before? Piece of cake or pain in the ass?

the most common answer i see for this is to wedge a bunch of washers/coins in between the spring coils to extend them and take the load off prior to trying to disassemble - at least I *think* it was for centre stand??

The most common type of spring removal tool is just a hook with a T handle. LINK

I seem to recall something about the exhaust getting in the way of bolt removal, but it's been too long and I don't have a S10 or the FSM any more. Enjoy the process.

Hi,

asking as i,m getting ready to remove mine for painting, when removing do you have the bike on the side stand, then with a spring puller pull the springs off the center stand pin, then take the 2 bolts out

Didn’t know about the coin trick but anything that lessens the pull is helpful even if it missed the inner spring. I managed to pull both off on a Bandit with needle nose pliers. Visegrips would prob work even better. But maybe removing the bolt then the spring is better?
Either way yes with the stand retracted as much as possible (is there a bumper that can be removed?)
