I am starting a 5 day 1700mile trip on Monday 5/15. Will primarily be following the BRP up to Shenandoah Valley. I'm looking for any advice on places to camp. The best spots and the ones to avoid on the BRP. Thanks in advance!

I've motorcycle camped at Crabtree Falls on the BRP. Great spot. Lots of private places all along it too.

Where are you? What mile marker? Linville Falls isn't far from MM 314. They have a nice camp ground off rt 221 Nc 183.

Bald Mt. Overlook - Milepost 22 almost at the northern end of the BRP. Small parking spot with picnic table on the left if headed North. A jeep road goes off from the north end of the parking area - Not challenging on bike but several nice camping spots about a mile or two up that road. A regular car would have trouble with this road but with a little ground clearance it is no problem. That keeps it more private up there. Been up there often in my Subaru Outback.

I find it hard to plan camp spots that far in advance. Personally my ride days evolve quickly so I prefer on the fly overnight stop planning in the late afternoon.

Try www.freecampsites.net
They have a cell phone app also.
Near 100% reliable for the US but I don't recommend it for Canada, was 50% at best.

There is an app for the BRP. Pretty good for listing gas, food and lodging.

I just got back from 5 days up the BRP and a loop through WV and back. My friend won't camp, so I'm no good for helping you on that.

Prepare for crazy weather. Saturday we had snow at Mt Pisgah and Mitchell, Thunderstorms on Tuesday and on the way back Wednesday I had all the vents open on my jackjet and pants and was burning up.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will check out the app. This will be my first motorcycle camping trip and my first long trip on the Super Ten.

I liked willville campground at Meadows of Dan, VA. Mile marker 177
It's motorcycles only and friendly hosts who build a big fire every night. Interesting conversation around the fire mostly bike related.

Crabtree used to have a very nice restaurant just off the Parkway, closed now so eat at Mt Mitchell if you roll up the mountain.

If you check this Will, be sure to stop at Peaks of Otter Lodge (north of Roanoke) and enjoy their buffet. Always good and campground is nearby.

Well I am back home from my trip. Thanks for all the info guys. I camped Monday night at Crabtree Falls. It was clean and quiet until the whippoorwill at 5AM. I ate lunch on Tuesday at 13 Bones in Mount Airy, NC. Best meatloaf I've ever had. Hotel in Waynesboro, VA Tuesday night. The highlight of my trip was lunch on Wednesday at The Floyd Country Store in Floyd, VA. Cool little store with live folk music on the weekends and good sandwiches. I camped Wednesday night at Linville Falls. It too was clean and quiet with no whippoorwill. Traffic was no problem on the parkway. More traffic near Ashville than anywhere. I can now check that one off my bucket list.

I worked for a short time in Bat cave, NC Crabby Bills restaurant some beautiful country. I would ride my GL 1100 along Gerton Hwy after work to unwind, last time I went threw that town Crabby Bills was washed out by a flood of the Broad River.
Damn I miss the sound of whippoorwills, I lived in Florida most of my life before moving to New Mexico.
Had a woodpecker that would start hammering away on the the bedroom side of my A frame house I lived in everyday for a month an hour before I had to get up for work.
Stupid bird didn't realize it was aluminum siding. A few times ambushing it with the garden hose fixed that. ::008::
