Yes, personally I'd rather buy a smaller DS dirt bike, but I'm looking to be able to go with my wife in some of the more rugged terrain in Arizona. I've had the ST in areas I probably should not be riding solo, and still want to go further (and I ain't getting any younger). So it looks like I may join the dark side.
One benefit, since you can get them street legal and ride the roads in AZ, it would give us a permanent vehicle to leave at our home there so we could fly in any time.
Since I am a Yamaha fan already, we are looking at the Wolverine RMAX4. My wife wants 4 seats for when we have guests, and this SxS does that in a form factor that doesn't take up the whole garage. It might even fit on my Kendon trailer, but right at/slightly above the weight limit. The Wolverine appears to be quite capable technically.
We have rented SxSs several times, but ownership is a new ball game. Any advise or suggestions?
