Hi all, about to complete a complete loop of Spain starting and ending at Dieppe in France and don't want to fall foul of the traffic cops in either country regarding carrying bulbs.
I have a spare pair of H7 for headlight halogens (perfectly happy with the light they throw out) but what do indicators and rear light need please?

And yes I know, in Seville next week predicted temps will be up to 42 degrees!!

you got a gen 1 or gen 2 bike, gen 2 bikes have led indicators so you would need a replacement indicatore rear light is led so the same no issue
with rear light gen 1 indicator bulbs are these.

but to be honest i have travelled to europe now for 40 yrs and never been asked to prove i have spare bulbs, even when i had a headlight bulb go it was says before i realised nobody stopped me, i replaced it when i got home

have a great trip

I have travelled to most countries in Europe over the last number of years . I have come across police checkpoints maybe 3 or 4 times during these trips. I have never been asked about spare bulbs or reflective overjackets. Documentation only (Driving licence, Insurance Cert and Vehicle Registration Documents). I was breathilised on one such stop. I usually carry a pair of headlight bulbs, a pair of 21w indicator bulbs and a pair of stop/tail light bulbs. (Lidl/Aldi kits.) Have been carrying these since
Aldi/Lidl came to Éire.

The same here.
A lot of custom barriers crossed and never been asked more than usual documents...
Don't take this in the wrong way ( I am a foreigner after all....), we have some shops where they sell bulbs....

spare bulbs are NOT a legal requirement anywhere in Europe. Except Croatia.

Hello from Spain
About the lights. I have no idea what the law says about the type of indicators and rear bulbs you must use. I will be very surprised if the police check that out. However if one of them isn't working, the police can ask you to replace it at that very moment. In case that you don't have a spare bulb or you don't know how to change them, they can stop your vehicle and force you to call a carrier and bring the bike to the next garage. Simply make sure that you have a spare bulb and an insurance just in case.
About the weather. We are starting a heat wave episode. It will last for at least a week. Spanish weather service here www.aemet.es also available in English. Be careful with that.

Gracias compadre, estaré allí en dos semanas mas o menos.
Looking foward to a bit of heat, I will get to the South more or less around 23rd June, then head up to Mérida/Badajoz from Sevilla after that.
Does it look like it'll last that long?
I have family all over Spain, but it sounds like by the time I get to Gernika to see cousins there, I'll welcome some cooling rain.

Denada, espero que disfrutes de tu estancia aquí. I live in Cogolludo (Guadalajara) I will be happy to invite you to a beer if you stop around here.
The heat will last to next Friday, then it will be cooler. http://www.aemet.es/en/eltiempo/prediccion/modelosnumericos/harmonie_arome#
Tell your cousins to arrange a visit to the Basque Parliament in Gernika. It is really worthy.

Read the whole document, further down indicates where motorcycles are exempt from things like fire extinguisher, warning triangle.

Either way, there’s no legal requirement to carry bulbs in Europe.
Duh, you're right. I didn't read to the bottom, when I saw "GB sticker" I knew it was old info.
However, requirement or not, I've been to Spain about 45 times as I have a wholly Spanish family, and know only too well how officious the Guardia Civil can be (although never had any real problems with them as I acceeded to their wishes immediately) so as Quique said, if they say do it, you do it. If you don't have any bulbs, I'd not want to be that bloke that argues with them.

Thanks Quique, I may very well do that if only to say hello.
Is there a good mechanic that works on your bike in the vicinity, just in case I have any issues, at least I can point him in that direction?
I've had the full tour of the atrocity of Gernika, parliament, Oak tree, audio visual performance etc-impressive documentation, but my riding buddy hasn't.
We might even stop in Belchite on the way down, which I've done twice, and was twinned with Oradour-Sur-Glane a few years ago.

Defo a terrible Franco/Hitler event, one seared into the Spanish consciousness alongside other Franco atrocities. In Castillian it's written Guernica in case you don't see it, depends on your map.
Bermeo is also worth visiting if you have time.

clap clap clap :) You touched my heart and made me drop a couple tears....

You are riding a ST aren't you? and your buddy too? I go to the Yamaha service in Guadalajara city https://motosdomarco.com/ good people good professionals, they are always busy but will give you preference if you are traveling. Recommended. However, by knowing Gernika and Belchite, you won the right to call me. +34637242701 :) (no whatsapp, it's an old silly phone) please do it if you have any problem.
There are also good service for Kawasaki and Suzuki in Guadalajara. However, the BMW "service" is crap. Go to Madrid instead.

I wish he were riding an S10 like me, no he's got a GS1200 and so I'm a little worried now because if he breaks down, and I understand he's far more likely to do so than me, it could scupper our holiday if it takes ages to fix his.
Thanks for the recommendation of Motosdomarco.
Having had a grandfather who fought for the Republicans in the Civil War, I was once taken as a young teenager to Valle de Los Caídos (this would've been shortly after Franco's death) and there my brother and I spat on his grave, much to the annoyance of the Guardia Civil with his sub machine gun that was guarding it. However as we were barely teenagers he probably felt he couldn't do anything about it.
I'm sure we weren't the only ones to do that.
For those that want to get some real insight into the horrors of the civil war, the film: The Endless Trench on Netflix is defo worth a watch

The grandson of an international brigadist? this time you won not only a beer, but two or three, followed by a roasted little goat (the speciality in town) with good wine in a good restaurant. You have a house, a spare motorcycle (mine) and whatever you might need. Let me state my respect, consideration and gratitude for what your grandfather did and please pass it on to your family.
Yes, the GS will likely break before the ST but it is still a good bike. They don't break so easy. Probably you won"t have any mechanical issue at all any of you. Your biggest problem will be the heat. Today has been horrible.
I can imagine a couple things that the guardia civil might had done and luckily he didn't. Anyway, well done.

Quique, I have loads of respect for my grandfather, Apolinar by name.
He was a greengrocer in Madrid and summer and christmases I used to go to his shop never knowing that during the 50's, 60's and 70's he hid socialist dissidents in a room behind his storeroom in the shop.
There was a hole in the wall that led to the other room that he covered over with an old wardrobe so no one would find the people.
He risked his life for what he believed was right, and the strange thing was that everyone in the street knew he hid people (fascists too) but such was the respect all those fellow shopkeepers had for him, and he being a decent old chap-that no one said anything.
Very rare at that time.
Would I do the same? I don't think I'd have the balls to do that.
