Just picked up a 2017 and didn't notice right away but once I got her home I found out the the ring around the gas cap is cracked (broken cracked) in about 4 or 5 places

A) Is this a common thing??

and B) how on earth could this happen?

Oh, and C) should I be able to transfer the lock cylinder from mione to a new one in order to keep keying the same?

thanks in advance
Rob

On my 2018 the lock is held in by 2 screws. Should be an easy switch. Worst case you will have to transfer the tumblers from your lock to the new lock

Dropping your bike on the pavement with a big loaded tank bag on a ring mount could do it. It looks like aluminum

Can't make new keys without it. Busted gas cap, missing master key, maybe look into returning the bike?

a knee jerk reaction would be to do just that - other than these items the bike is absolutely minty - the guy passed away and widow can't find the keys but I want to give her some time before i get all medieval about things - really don't wanna return it if I don't have to - would much rather that we agree on splitting up the cost somehow
