And you have accepted the trade off in tire wear for your desired riding. No harm, no foul.
I sure have. Tire wear has never really been a consideration to me. I tend to replace them well before they hit the wear bars.

There are a consumable, I do most of the mounting for our little group here. Some run them way longer than I would. Once they start losing the off road trip, I start looking

Took my Ax41’s for a mixed ride in southern VT last weekend to get a better feel for these tires. They performed well on the trails and dirt roads and were a pleasant surprise on the twisty pavement. When the tires were new they felt a little more squirmy than my old Shinko 804-805 but now that they have a few miles on them they feel much more stable on pavement. I still haven’t had much rain riding with them yet. The more they wear the better they feel. I do have to say they are louder than anything I have ever run on any bike but they are the most aggressive off road pattern I have used. I do like how much better they feel on turn in making the bike feel much more maneuverable and lively.

I just ordered a set of them as well. I have some life left in my E07+ rear, but have not found a front tire I really like yet.

Plus at the rpices they are at they are a pretty good deal, got the front and rear for 109 each. Based on the reviews thus far I am sure I'll be at least 109 dollars satisfied with them :)

I'm almost at the end of the rears life. Less than 2500 miles. Overall they are fine, corners good, wondered some but never a slip. Off road is better than on, plenty of bit on any situation I put it into. I'll probably not do another set, but that's because of the road noise. I don't mind hearing the tires but they just keep getting loader. That would be my least favorite thing about them. They may want to try to get some more milage in the tire, but as I have said I'm hard on them.

Just got them mounted up. Had to wait for the rear to get here. Back order when I bought. Looks good. Mounting was easier than most everything else I've ran. Seemed pretty soft on the side wall. Will try to keep a post about them after some miles get out on.
Those look great ! Looking forward to reading more about them.

I’m curious as well. With the rebate it makes them really attractive.

The Kenda Big blocks have been excellent on and off road. A little road noise, but surprisingly great feeling on road. The biggest complaint I have is with longevity of the rear. I’m expecting to get 3000 miles or so. I’d like a longer lasting tire.

I really like the Kinda BB for road and off road, but the longevity is not good. Still stomping around on my 804/805's

So I got my tires yesterday, had a meeting till 7:30 PM so after that I went out and got the new AX41's mounted. Only took me about two hours start to finish. Took the bike out last night to do a little scrubbing and road in to work today on them.

I will reiterate from above - These tires are loud. very loud. I took the longer way into work, has a bunch of pretty beat up roads, and the tires were good, even on the twisties they felt nice and planted, a little wandering but not as bad as I though. Coming off the E07+, I could not tell a big difference on the road, apart from the noise, and a little more vibration.

Sunday I will be heading out to the ANF for a day of forest roads and dirt / mud so I will let y'all know how they do. from the little gravel I did I have a feeling they will be good.

I've not found a front tire I like thus far, so I am curious if I will like the AX41. We shall see.

Yes Mike, I don't think there is a "big block" tire made that does not howl!! My Anakee Wilds scream on the pavement. Even louder than the wind noise. It's nice to see a few riders like us that want a good old knobby for everyday riding. After the AX41's wear out you might want to try the Michelin Wilds. So far the front one is planted in the corners on the pavement. And when panic stopping you will be hard pressed to engage the antilock on dry pavement. they do have the normal predictable tire squirm that all knobby's have.

So I have about 400 miles on the AX41’s now, rode 340 miles today, a lot of it dirt. Have to say I like the tires quite a bit. Can lean way over on pavement and did not feel like they were walking, and in the muddy sections they seemed good.

Only thing that seemed odd was the rear liked to go out sideways when braking on cambered gravel. I don’t recall my E07+ doing that, but it could just have been me being more aggressive than normal as well.

They. Are. So. Friggin. Loud.

So loud my friend could easily hear them over my intercom. So loud they gave me a bit of a headache even with foam earplugs. So loud....

Like them apart from the noise.

So, here they are at 3 months and 5000 miles. Retired this set last week, I would have liked to replace them a week or two before that. I tried to run them at yamaha specs (33 and 42).

Probably 2500 of the 5k was lanesplit commuting (near san fran - east bay), 2000 super slab, 500 dirt and dirt-like. I like to accelerate hard and brake hard, I love bouncing this bike between lanes so I think I'm pretty hard on tires, usually just me (250-275 lbs) and 50ish pounds of tools, laptop, lunch, etc.

I got bought a second set of the same AX-41s front and rear, I will run these about 5k miles then it'll be getting into wet season so I'll go a little more road based until next spring (~February-March around here). So obviously I'm pretty happy with them. I like their feel on pavement although I wouldn't ever describe the ride as smooth and they definitely have that 4wd truck whirr. On dirt, grass, gravel, mud, snow (2-3 cm atop pavement / dirt / gravel) they are like effing velcro. I'm not much of a dirt dude, so I want the best dirt tires I can have without giving up too much road performance (I came from a 2002 honda vfr).

Note on the front the distinctly triangular shape the center blocks have taken on, so the first edge that hits the ground wears less than the second, I guess that makes sense, most front wear from braking. Note also how the first edge in this pic shows a bit of flexing of the rubber I think (the crescent shape on the top of the center blocks...)

Here's the rear, pretty square as expected. The picture doesn't show just how flat it is although if you look at the row of knobs right where the "B" is (or any of rows near the top of the tire you can kind of see that the blocks have a distinctly triangular shape and that the height of the center blocks is like half or less than the ones near the edge).

The new ones feel SO round after wearing these into this shape. Turn in on a new set of tires is always fun.

5krealrear.jpg

And then finally, here is another one from a slightly different angle and to show a little perspective as to how much tread remains (rear). The rear does not seem to show any of the 'crescenting' that the front did. Using the key as a unit of measure, the height of that the middle of that block converts to about 5-6mm.

I do think it's especially cool that you can still read the writing on the tire after 5k miles. If the bottom half of that picture had adventurecross not cut off and a little more centered I might send it to bridgestone. Like this one but centered and stuff:

Anyway, that's whats up with my A-41's.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks for that write up NewAdvrider. Just what I was looking for. I have a set of them waiting to go on here in the next week or so. The Kenda Big Block knobby on front wore roughly the same way.

How much wheel weight are you guys using to balance these tires?

My rear tire at just under 4K miles. Replaced with the Shinko 805 that I normally ride up to 6K with.

Front tire is wearing evenly but still howls like a banshee. I won’t use one again because of that.

To be fair, the Bridgestone is a fine tire and with a little moderation in the throttle, I believe 5K miles is very possible. The $30 rebate was nice so maybe next time that is offered...

4 to 5 k on them ??????? Maybe I've been harder on the rear than I thought. Guess I should ease up some.

I rode a fair amount of dirt (80/20) with the Bridgestones and 1 trip to the Blue Ridge. I wouldn't consider my style "easy" for any tire but I do use the engine braking as much as possible, avoid panic stops and don't race stoplight-to-stoplight.

I'm hard on them, I'm looking at what I'm going to try for the next set. Maybe the gps, haven't tried any of the motoz get. If I spelled that right. Not as aggressive. Road handling should be better.

Back from my 11820 mile Alaska trip , Changed out the AX41 in Fairbanks at 5400 miles. Made it from pennsylvania to the Arctic Circle with them . Changed to Heidenau K76 for the remainer of the trip.
