Brake pad tip.

Changed all the brake pads today, flushed and bled the hydraulics, cycled the pump and bled again. While removing the front pads, one of the tiny hitch pins flew to parts unknown somewhere in my garage. I heard land somewhere way over there - damnit! On a bet, I tried checking the local Ace Hardware on my way to the dealer. Turns out they had exact replacements and for all of 0.29 cents! The Yamaha dealer would have probably charged $5 and had to order them!

I go to Ace Hardware frequently for hard to find fiddly stuff.

I had half the stuff moved out of the garage looking for it and was about to head to my local Ace Hardware when I finally found the clip. If a Mitsubishi Zero flew as well as that spring clip, everyone in The south Pacific would be speaking Japanese.

In Joshua, way-back-when, used to have a True Value. Bare concrete floor with visible brick interior walls. It had a section like you're describing; hitch pins, nutserts, and gazillions of nuts/bolts/washers and screws. Never left empty. It's gone and I have to use Home Depot. F***kers around here like to mix the stuff around.

Next time you drop one just let it go.
Much better to safety wire the pins from one side to the other through the tiny hole. Works better and more secure.

Last 2 front sets in mine were changed between 15-17k miles. They’re EBC HH. I took the original pads out at 16.5k miles as I didn’t like the set up. I reckon they would have done at least another 10k miles.

The OEM front pads last a long time, I got about 45K each, out of two pair. The bike now having 90K on it. The rear OEMS go faster, maybe 20-25K? I fitted all new EBC HH pads all around just to see how they work.

I have 26,000 miles on my ‘21 S10 with a 6000 mile trip coming up in June. So, I replaced/bled the brake fluid and installed a fresh set of Yamaha rear brake pads. The old rear pads still have approximately 3mm of pad left and the new pads measure right at 6mm. I cleaned the old pads and threw them in the spare parts box. The front pads still look to be about 75-80% good …… I‘ve never replaced a front set on any S10 I owned. My 2015 S10 had just under 60,000 miles on it when traded and the front pads were still original.
