Hi all,

can anyone tell me what the bikes capacity is for brake and clutch fluid? I want to make sure I order the right amount before starting the job to flush/change.

thanks!

Sorry, I don't know.
But it also depends a lot on how difficult it is to get the air out after.
I would guess that 1 L should be fine

As Nikolajsen said...capacity tells you nothing as it all depends on how much fluid you would pour to bleed / clean all the ducts
Besides clutch is a bitch as the reservoir is super tiny...

0.5 L beeing on the short end and 1L beeing on the large end

DOT 4 is indeed the recipe for the fluid
Some recommend also to change the rubber membranes which in time get eaten up and contaminate the new fluid (i do it), that's up to you and also depends how old the fluid is

OP, not sure how experienced you are with this stuff, but don’t forget to activate the ABS unit if bleeding the brakes, and with the master cylinder caps off, when pulling the levers, fluid will squirt upwards. A paper towel over the top is advised.

I’ve done mine three times, all straightforward stuff.

Thanks all, that’s helpful. I’ve watched a video online of how to do it and have a vacuum pump to use to bleed. I will order the fluid and do it in a couple of weeks I expect.

Do you happen to know the part numbers for the membranes you mention please?

This should take you roughly where you need to be, you can navigate with your particular bike and year, I guess Gen1 and Gen2 are the same, but don’t know what bike you have. I reckon it’s item 5 on both handle bar master cylinders. Part 24 on the rear MC.

1 bottle will do, and you won't likely use it all. Once opened, you need to throw out any left overs anyway. Always use a new sealed bottle. Cover painted surfaces to protect against any splashes. It's nasty stuff.

The clutch reservoir is tiny. You'll probably find it is the worst shape.
