I am looking for boots that do not have buckles anywhere near the feet or ankle. whatcha got?
That one is a no brainer. Get the Sidi All Road Gore-tex boots from Performance Cycle in Englewood CO. I have the previous version called the Sidi On Road that was more of a road touring boot. They are being discontinued by Sidi and you can get this great boot for $199.99 in sizes 42, 43, 46, or 47. That's a killer deal and 46 is my size but I have more boots than I will be able to wear out on my riding life time.

Great! Now, finish the description please. Adventure boots? Sport Touring boots? Waterproof? Road sole or off pavement lugged sole? Budget?

Why do you prefer not to have buckles in the first place? A very large percentage of ADV style boots with lugged soles for off pavement use have buckles... for a reason. Retention being only one of them.

I only wear "motorcycle boots" when riding my XT600 exclusively in the dirt. When I ride the Tenere I usually wear Merrell waterproof boots. I also dislike stiff footwear with buckles.

I have had the All Road for the last 7 years. They have been great, provide some, although not a lot of ankle protection. Like what was said, they are a touring boot, and pretty comfortable for walking. Found out last year, that they are not waterproof anymore. Not sure where the water is getting in, but spray on waterproofing has stopped the leak so far.

I've also had my Sidi On Road boots for several years but they have a smoother street bike sole. What I like about the Sidi All Road boots is that they have the same lugged sole as my Sidi Adventure and Sidi Canyon boots. I personally would prefer more protection than the Sidi All Road provides for use on Tenere but the original poster was asking for something without a buckle so that limits your choices. Many retailers list the All Road as an adventure boot so I think it would work fine if you ride streets, gravel and fire roads.

They are not mutually exclusive traits. Like any footwear, boots break in from use. I have walked many miles in my Gaerne G-Midland boots and am on my second pair since 2011. There is a big difference between an all plastic dirt boot and an ADV boot. You might as well were tennis shoes for all the protection those Merrell boots will give you in a crash. To each their own.

I had no regrets wearing Merrell hiking boots when I crashed (slammed sideways into a center barrier after hitting road debris) my FJR a few years ago. I believe a lot of riders unneccessarly overkill when buying gear. And there are those that buy overly expensive gear just to profile, ie Harley riders and sidewalk commandos. But as you stated, to each their own.

I'm glad you did ok in the Merrells. Body parts are hard to fix is my opinion. Dr's can fix ankles and hands very well, if at all. I'm a machinist and could do a better job than most doctors on a hand. They know the parts, but can't replace anything, just try and bolt/screw/plate things together like hacks. Leaving people at diminished capacity for the rest of their lives.

I've never seen motorcycle boots with good protection that don't have buckles. I wear the Gaerne Balance for mellow and SG10 for everything else. Every single piece of my riding gear is meant to be comfortable on the bike. There is zero consideration for off bike comfort when it comes to riding gear. A good pair of riding boots that offer decent protection are not comfortable to walk in.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

For those asking about why I don’t want buckles its because I just had a lowside in my aplinestars toucan boots. the buckle concentrated the weight of my bike to a small point and it broke the front aspect of the lateral malleolus of my fibula (front edge of the outer ankle bone). right where the buckle was. I imagine if I didnt have those buckles my leg wouldn’t be as injured. I think buckles are great for offroad boots which are meant to fall on dirt, and the dirt will give way to the protruding buckles, but when riding on asphalt I wont ride with buckles on my boots anymore. there is no give in asphalt and it makes the buckles hot spots for for focused energy dispersion. I never get offroad on my s10 and infrequently ride dirt/gravel roads.

the klim boots and the alpinestars look great, I used to wear merrells and ditched them for more protection. I didnt think the features of my more protective boot would turn around and harm me. I love the comfort of the toucans, the goretex lining and full shin protection were a lot more comfortable than I expected them to be. walking in them was fine too. if I did more offroad riding I would keep them but im probably gonna throw them up on ebay this spring. I need something more pavement oriented.

I have thousands of miles on the Bates goretex gtx side zip duty boots. Kept my feet dry for multiple seattle winters (insane amounts of rain).

These days I ride in buckle adv boots though.
