. . . . Ride what you want. Be happy for others who ride what they want. Life is too short. . . .
I agree. But, when a person gets a Beemer, and then goes on a Tenere forum. . . . and extolls the virtues of the Beemer? Ya' gotta expect some push back. I can only imagine the reception a Tenere rider would get if he did the same on a Beemer forum.

bmac was saying say how the reaction to BMW was different to that of Suzuki, and Kawasaki on this forum. He's right. My opinion is that it's because brands from Japan don't go a around telling people how much better they are than everybody else.

Ride more, worry less.

I just see bikers, I care not a jot what you ride, where you ride, how far you ride, how much you paid for your ride, how fast you ride, where you drink your coffee on your ride. I really don’t feel the need to drag others down to feel better about myself or my bike.

Naughty man praises bike, but it wasn’t my bike........how dare he?

And, I’m guessing here, but most of us are well over 50.

Or, you could just live and let live, respect each other’s choices. Some things don’t need to be said, spiteful glee at others problems is unnecessary and not a particularly nice human trait. It’s quite easy to be pleased for and with other people’s good news/purchases/achievements, but sadly far too often on this forum I see spite and glee from others misfortune and choices, certainly not all members, but certainly from some.

Someone moves on to a KTM/BMW, you can almost feel that some are just waiting to express their smugness, if and when there’s a problem.

You know those Harley owners that cannot and will not see beyond their chosen brand, rubbishing everything else along the way..............................
One thing that is hard to read in typed words is an emotional reaction expressed. I actually find it sad and am genuinely bummed out with someone plunking down a big chunk of money for a nice bike only to have issues with it and being left stranded.

I was laughed at for even thinking about doing an Iron Butt on my Beta dirt bike. The very next few days at very same turn around place a KTM 690 barely broken in left a rider stranded with a fuel pump failure. Believe me that is not a laughable matter. 12,000.00 bike not even due for it's first oil change and quit running. Not good at all!!

The OP and myself are both former Super Tenere owners. I don't think any BMW owners have showed up just to trash talk the S10. I have not trashed talked the S10 as I think it is, in general, an excellent bike.
BMAC, I wish you many trouble free and enjoyable miles on your BMW GS. It works for you and that's what matters. You did your research and I'm sure you know all the pros and cons of the bike. Heck man, I trash talk any bike that does no suit my needs or has an issue. Super Tenere included. It's good for riders to have choices. I even have a few riding buddies who own and enjoy their BMW's.

BMW started this "Adventure Riding" craze. In the 90's "Turbo" was the buzz word connected to every product available. Today "Adventure" is the word attached to everything.

I shopped around and saved from 2013 to 2018 to get the bike that was a good fit for me. I test rode a bunch of different brands and decided that the Yamaha was the best bike for the type of riding I do. The BMW GS, KTM 190/1190/1290, Ducati Enduro, and Triumph did not fit my reliability, comfort, or handling I was looking for. Every single one of those brands have issues I'm not willing to live with.

Lets face it, the Super Tenere is a very small market in the big adventure bike segment. I'm willing to bet that that BMW will continue producing and refining the GS long after Super Tenere is discontinued.

This conversation is getting dumber as it goes. What business do people have critiquing other's choices on something as trivial as a motorcycle? Geez Louise, get off the high horse. Ride what you want. Be happy for others who ride what they want. Life is too short.

We're just shooting the shit. No one really gives a crap if the OP wants to ride a beemer.

Some comments were going a little further than needling. I'm probably getting fatigued from the general "us vs them" that is pervasive in the U.S. right now. Seems to be everywhere and on the most trite subjects. For the record, I'm all for jocular needling. Keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously.

Rich, It's more like the comments and replies are getting taken out of context. I think there is not one member here who would disagree that the bikes we ride are a personal choice. A bike that's very popular and gives enjoyment to thousands of riders might suck for someone else.

You kind of have to have a thick skin when you ride something like I do and get laughed at for touring on it. I can care less what anyone thinks about what I'm using it for. The fact (not opinion) is this bike can do more than any other big adventure bike. The lightweight dual sport will always be my go to bike for real cross country adventure. I can go to the hotel and pull my aircraft tank off the back in less than 10 minutes and have a canyon carver. slap on some knobby tires and it turns into a single track machine. Even with a pro level rider there is no GS, Super Tenere, or any other adventure bike that has the capability of a lightweight bike.

As I get older I went with the Super Tenere because of it's comfort and luggage capacity. It's not as versatile as a dual sport but serves my purpose. GS same deal. These are the old man bikes for us guys who are winding down as we get older and don't care to tear up our bodies on the track, GNCC, or desert. It is very rare to see a young guy in his 20's riding a big beast.

Rider skill still matters. If you and I were off road. . . . me on the Beta, and you on the T-12. . . . you're still going to ride circles around me. . . . literally. . . . 'cuz I'll be the one on the ground with the bike laying on top of him. Yeah, my youngest kid was 22 when he got the FJR. Of course he also listens to S.R.V., C.C.R., B-T-O, etc, etc. . . . He said that if he'd ridden the T-12 first. . . . he wouldn't have gone with the FJR.

I think someone else mentioned that that is a problem with the written word. It's too easy to take it out of context. I used to type my reports in all caps, easier to type, and read. Some youngster asked me why I was screaming in my reports.

You're also correct about the pervasive polarization in the U.S. It's a shame. . . . don't know how to fix it. . . . can't blame just one person. . . . guilty of it myself.

Speaking of polarization ... a joke to tone down the discussion. ..
.- a woman goes to the gynecologist, after observing her for a while he tells her
.- you have a democratic leg and the other republican.
- it because one is left and the other right?
No, I'm telling you because of the huge crack in the middle:):)
