I can find warm feelings for the GS. I love bikes too much to be a hater.

But Chevy?

That's hatfield\mccoy stuff there. Ford/Chevy divide is Americana!

Mark, it's not meant to be serious or a 'gang mentality'
Here's your sentence again:

"But in all seriousness..I don't like the attitude that comes with the bikes, either from the people selling them, or the people that drink the bmw kool aid."

I guess saying you're serious means something else.

Juvenile is a bit strong, lighten up man.
I'll take your comment to heart, but it cuts both ways.

I like how it was passed by two bicycles, then a chicken, then a boy rolling a wire wheel then a camel...

Just sayin'

agreed, as I said in the follow up post, it from my experience.
My local dealer left me disapointed with their sales pitch and slagging of other brands (even though they sell all of them)
And as the bmw comment is concerned, all the GS guys that I know love them and stand behind them no matter if it's good or bad.

my yamaha is not perfect, and i'll be the first one to admit to it, no bike brand is perfect.
but all in all it's all meant to be in good fun, because if we can't laught about it what's the point of it all.

The new stuff of course is amazing and without peer at the moment, of course but time will tell.
Who rendered that judgement?

Are they non- rebuildable or just a pain to rebuild?
The guy told me they were non-rebuildable. I'm guessing he investigated all the options before deciding to spend the money on a new one.

Still no links to the 30 second adventure clip? The parked bike commercial was boring, I want to see the cool one..

I Google'd it but Google failed me. Anyone have better luck?

There are some really nice BMW owners out there, but they do seem to have more than their fair share of Muppets as well, I think they do attract some people who want to buy a BMW to feel superior and have some rather radical fans, most forums for other bikes I have owned have been friendly places (like here) and if someone has an issue with their machine for the most part they get good advice, if you dare to critcise a BMW or are suspected of implying they are anything other than the best bikes on the planet you get flamed really bad by some of the Extremist BMW owners.

Not so keen on the dealers either...

My local one lied about service costs prior to me buying one (Telling me a 12k service was "About £200", then once I owned one and tried to book it in the price was £350)

The supplying dealer of my bike misled me on the bike having just had an annual service - when I found out about this and complained they agreed to do it FOC, but it was like I was some sort of arsehole for complaining about their mistake (or blatant lie, form your own opinion) they also failed to chase up my BMW Approved Used warranty, in the end I called BMW myself - several times, I eventually got the warranty documents 23 months later - 11 months after the warranty had expired and five months after I sold the bike - oddly they got the renewal letter out on time.

In view of all this when I needed another service I tried a third BMW dealer who quoted my £280 for the 12k service, then presented me with a bill for £340, apparently it was my mistake and they refused to even discuss the fact as there was no way their man could have made a mistake on the phone.

Having said all that the free Coffee at one of the dealers was OK, with the others one had a horrible machine and the other I had to use the Gas station over the road as it seemed only their most cherished customers got complimentary coffee, I always got the feeling you had to be on your third or fourth new BMW before some dealers treated you as anything other than a stain on their showroom floor.

On the positive side they always had plenty of Demo bikes, and would provide a courtesy bike when you had service / repair work done, which in my experience was very often

Great bikes to ride, some great owners, but no amount of marketing hype would ever get me back onto one of their bikes.

Love that first one - have used it to answer cruiser and sport bike riding friends as to why I got this bike. Of course I have to spend nearly a full day on the slab to get to any twisty roads or dirt roads that aren't pure sugar sand, but at least I can get there in comfort... ;)

The weather is nice in Florida, but the roads leave much to be desired.

The latest CW has a full spread on the new BMeR seems like a nice bike, lots of gizmos and buttons and the price is pretty steep. It's also 30% liquid cooled now, first time for this series bike. I would demo one just for the heck of it but could never justify spending that much. I also found it interesting that CW pitted our 10's against two 650cc, one 800cc and one 990cc in a all out shoot out. The KLR650 won first place we came in 2nd I believe.

I only had the one BMW, bought used 07 K1200GT, put 23,000+ miles. FD failed at 9,000 miles. Didn't like the way I was treated for service, or any of the fixes I had to pursue. Lost about $4k when I sold and just barely sold before the K1300GT was out and they reduced the pricing on the K1200GTs drastically. My wife also owned a F650GS twin, so 2 bmws and we are done.

I think they are way over priced for what you get, and lots of problems that are very hard to get adressed. BMW also does not ever admit there is a problem. They make changes from year to year but do not publish, so no one knows what state your bike is in.

No amount of money would ever get me on another BMW. There are too many very good bikes out there without having to put up with the cost and aggravation of owning a BMW.

One of my favorite quotes from a GS owner that I was talking to at a local 'bike night'. Me: "You ever take it off road." BMW owner: " ???HA...it would get dirty."
Needless to say that was the end of our conversation

Not sure how this got to be a BMW bashing thread, but as an owner of both a R1200GS Adventure and a Super Tenere, they both have their merit..

They're both good, fun bikes. And it IS a cool commercial.

I love my BMW and would buy another in a second, but the Tenere was two thirds the price of the GS and it's almost as good of a bike.

I haven't had any final drive issues or EWS issues or had to rebuild any shocks. All I've done is oil changes and valve adjustments on the GS and I expect the same from the Yamaha. (and yes, I do get them both dirty) I own several Yamahas and I'm satisfied with their quality, as I am with the BMWs I own.

Bashing a brand, and those who appreciate the brand, whichever it is, just makes you sound like a dick, so feel free to advertise all you want and we'll take it for what it's worth!

Tried two friends' GSAs and couldn't wait to give the lardy, top heavy beasts back. The Tenere is a much better bike IMO.

Makes me nostalgic for an old airhead. Much more practical bikes than their current lineup. If only they could give the airhead more power, better fuel economy, cleaner combustion, and a reliable drivetrain and electrics, without increasing weight (R80/GS was 410lbs dry), I'd have one tomorrow.

I don't want much ;-)
