Has anyone tried to pair a mp3 player to their helmet comms. I used have a the Garmin 590LM with built in mp3 but i've swapped to the tomtom 550 (hated Garmins route planning) now i miss the music. I could and have used my phone but it seems a bit of a faff so was thinking of a dedicated player.

Wasn't sure which forum to post this so apologies if its in the wrong place.

cheers.

I'm a little unclear on what a faff is, so I'm not sure why that's a reason not to just link your phone (with a built in media player) to your helmet comm. You're already carrying a phone, why carry another device that does the same thing?

I forgot, even a phone w/o service can be used as a 9-1-1 phone. And, the Doctor is right, listen to the music as you take your moto-tag photos.

I've also recently started using my old phone, mounted on a Quad Lock, and I'm digging it. GPS services still work, and it can be tethered via wifi to my real phone for internet access (then bluetooth to earbuds). Use it for music, nav, might get that TPMS app, etc. Real phone stays in my jacket pocket in case I am separated from motorcycle and need to call 911. If I get lazy and don't remove old phone from Quad Lock and it gets nicked, it's not a huge loss. All that might be more that OP was looking for, but still an old cell phone stashed anywhere could be an answer.

I had to look up faff myself, but used nicked to be inter-continentally friendly. :D

I guess I'm still missing the OP's need for a standalone mp3 player as opposed to just using the phone he already has. If you're using a TomTom GPS, then you don't need to have the phone mounted on the bike itself (like you would if you were using the phone for navigation). Even with my ancient Sena SMH10, I can link my phone to my comm unit, and I can skip songs or repeat songs or adjust the volume all by using the controls on the Sena; I never need to touch the phone itself once they're linked via bluetooth. I'd imagine that any comm newer than mine is capable of the same thing. If I'm using a GPS to navigate, I'd just put the phone in my pocket and listen to music from there.

I'm not deliberately trying to be one of those "why do you want to trailer your bike, why don't you just ride it?" type of guys; I just figured that I must be missing an obvious reason why the OP wanted a second device that just repeats the function of a device he already has.

FAF: british term meaning Hasle or agro, more commonly known as F***k About Factor. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys ... i might go the old phone route mounted on a quad lock as gapmtn1 suggests . The reason i find my current phone a faff is the voice activation on my headset (interphone avant) for the music player is kinda broken sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and i would also like to quickly and easily change albums think i was spoilt with Garmins dedicated mp3 player.

LOL, I looked up the name on line, and the first thing I thought of when I saw his photo was Onslow from Keeping Up Appearances. It looks like there are some YouTube clips of the show, I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Ha! I always understood FAF to mean something dumb or a pain in the ass more or less, but it's nice to learn the acronym!

I bought a new Cardo system and paired it with my cheap (Best Buy) MP3 last fall. Sound was great. Just yesterday, I tried pairing the Cardo and my new Tom Tom 550. Not sure what I did, but it works as well. Now, I haven't yet tried to see if the music cuts out when I get a notification from the Tom Tom. Didn't want to go through my phone so I never paired that with the headset.

I have a Bluetooth receiver, with a noise filter, hooked up to my Autocom Spa intercom. I play music off my phone, and control it with a JBL Click(mounted on handlebar).
