Finally got home so here are a few pix.

DM showing the States she was about to lead DD through next:

So after leaving I headed up to Devils Tower and there's a Tenere next to the Visitor's Center. Turns out he was not even aware of us or the forum and small world, served in the Navy with my brother in law and lives not that far from me. Hopefully Brian will join the collective here.

Always wanted to cross the country on backroads so did that and took on two 12 week old passengers just to get them the hell out of a squalid collection of broken down trailers, old RVs, and anything else people could sleep in. Then tick covered, the pups have now been off the rez for a week and tomorrow the black one, Zorro, goes to his new home. Their mom was a big black lab and I'm guessing the dad for the B&W pup was a tall lanky legged hound of some kind. I've been calling him KoTa which is the base word for both Dakota and Lakota and translates to friend. He's a lover who I'm guessing will be 70+ lb and is sweet as they come but at 12 weeks he needs somebody who can put time into him.

KoTa is all leg and look at the size of those paws!

TABASCO,
I recall you saying someone thought you should have the Zumo XT for the rally trip and I noticed it on your handle bar (if I’m seeing correctly). Perhaps you could provide a review of your experience with it sometime. That would interest me.

I bet ya he aint got no GPS.

(purposely used bad grammar)
After 40 years with NO GPS, 'someone' thought it might be best.... Probably so she feels more comfortable on me coming home ! :D It seems the older I get, the deeper and farther we get back in the "back woods"..... Is this on purpose ? LOL. On the AZBDR we (not me) had an issue and a modern GPS would have been helpful for sure... Anyhow, I REALLY enjoyed it on the last trip and works fantastic !

That was probably mine that you saw. I have the XT with a Tourtech mount. The XT is about the easiest GPS I have ever used. It is very bright. I was using Base Camp to plan my trips but the trip planner is super easy to use on the GPS. You can alter your route with just the touch of a finger. The reason for the Tourtech mount is because I actually lost my first XT on the highway due to a Garmin mount failure. Garmin was good enough to send me a check to replace the unit after I showed them that I had purchased and registered a new one. Pretty good customer service as far as I am concerned. I would recommend a tether of some kind for the XT. It wasn't any fun walking the ditch for 6 miles twice only to come up empty handed.

I built my own sun shade to provide less glare from the screen. It is still a work in progress.

The short version is that it works fantastic and is AWESOME !

This is my first GPS. I was and still learning all that it can do. But I have played with other GPS units for the last 20+ years. This thing is AMAZING ! It virtually gets 5 stars all over the internet and I would have to agree. Im not a "tech" type person. So I need it to work / connect / and be user friendly. This I feel is the unit for me. One thing that I found interesting is my buddy was running a little older Garmin and we found many things his would not provide. This new XT popped up on the screen all types of cool and "useful" info that his cant. The screen glare and even in the position I have it in is not an issue at all. After a 3200 mile trip, I only recall one time for about 20 seconds that the sun was reflecting off the screen in my eyes..... So IMOP this is a NON-ISSUE. In the position I have it, it was really useful to me because I ran my music through it and I could control all aspects with out over reaching. I found it work work very well for me.

I personally don't have anything past experience with many other units. But this one is super awesome and I LOVE IT. For everyone else with a GPS they are going to laugh at me.. LOL. But this give me so much more freedom out in the boonies. At some point I will probably add the inReach and pair it to the GPS. Ive already experienced a life and death situation on motorcycles, and having something that can save your life for a few hundred bucks is a total no brainer. (a buddy got hurt out in the sticks with no cell service- at the time we had SPOT- it still took them 14-15 hours to find us)

Im NOT a GPS veteran and don;'t know everything. Many of these features are redundant and have been on past models and have just been improved. This over all unit I think is top notch. Ive already added 64gig of storage space for more maps/info/music. I looked around on Google and understand that you can actually add 256Gig (not what Gamin says)

I does so many cool and useful things I can write it all out. If your interested check out the Garmin owners manual or all the You-Tube Vids and there is tons of great info. If you have any other questions just let me know.

I saw a number of people had them and said they liked them. They also liked the OS change Garmin's made.

Thanks TABASCO, Lstayner, Fpalbrecht. Your testimonials mean a lot. I’m kicking myself for not buying and XT during the $399 sale. One uncertainty I have is if there watch outs with the Sena or Cardo “mesh” system, ie enough blue tooth/wireless channels to link phone/music with XT while maintaining the “mesh communication” with other riders. I have a Cardo, never connected with other riders (I tried with eemsreno’s Sena unsuccessfully but think that was a BT issue) but would want to communicate with others while using XT. I’m sure it was built for this but I’m way over my head in understanding how these communication channels work between riders, XT, phone etc. I can take a short course and look up the manual for more details but do any of you have brief comments on how it works with the rider to rider mesh or non-mesh? Ie works great! or any key learnings? I figure some of the BH rally bunch connected headsets.

I ordered a Touratech locking mount for my XT yesterday . Luckily I have had no issues with the Garmin mount just figured it was one less item to worry about when I stopped . Been carrying the garmin In Reach Explorer plus for several years for the two way messaging and sos .

I have a Sena 50s. Used to have the Cardo Packtalk. The XT is great. With the 50s and Cardo I can see who texted me and click the play button to listen to the text. Same with phone calls. With phone you can answer or ignore via the xt screen. You have your contacts list if you want to make a call. Music works great with controls on screen and easy switching from music stored on phone or XT. Or listen to another app. Best part is brightest screen on the market. Great for old eyes. I've ridden in heavy rain and no issues. I would buy it again. No hesitation. Some people can't stand the new OS. I'm fine with it.

I love my XT also. By far the best yet. If there is anything negative that I could say, is in heavy rain, the rain is conductive enough for the screen to think you are making selections, and it is interesting to watch. Had it once select a spot, ask if I wanted to go there, and it hit the yes, changing my route.

I've had that issue using an Android phone with OSMand+

I have Cardo. Works great from rider to rider / mesh. Also with music. This is all easy to connect and seems to work well all together. For the first time all of this really works well and is a really nice GPS / phone / music / communication combo.
I really like the set up !
