For those that aren’t interested in in hard off road riding, but wouldn’t mind some easy gravel, the Mt. Coolidge lookout, east of Custer and south on 87 toward the game loop has awesome scenery. It was hard packed yesterday. Could have rode a Goldwing up it easily.....

To my disappointment I have to cancel on the rally. My wife broke her leg and a trip out west is no longer possible.. I hope everybody has a great time. At this time I am #27 on the list. I was listed as rfulcher - RV #630. My name can be removed.

That’s the look on my wife’s face whenever we go on an adventure.
At least you can get yours to go on an adventure on your bike. Apparently, my wife's former husband scared her off of bikes, plus she has back problems, and I haven't been able to get her back on one, even just cruising around on local blacktops.

I would defiantly like to "check it out"... I don't run GPS but I will need to do homework on all the fun off road around the area ! ! Looking forward to it !

I will be bringing a truck and my truck tent just in case i see even a hint of bedbugs in the cabin. Anything even close to bedbugs and ill camp in the truck and use the cabin for power only.

I checked multiple registers and no one has ever reported the crazy horse for bedbugs but they are VERY common in this area.

Be careful.

hey 03A3KRH, Where is the Black Hill Nat Historic Trail? I plan to ride as much as I can during the rally and don't want to inadvertintly (sp?) tread on sacred ground without a permit. Leaving town for two weeks today if I don't respond to your reply..thanks in advance.

The only National Historic Trail in SD that I’m aware of is the Lewis and Clark trail along the Missouri river. In the Black Hills I believe the trails are called National recreational trails.

Three digit trails (gravel roads and two tracks) can be traveled with a plated street legal vehicle. Four digit trails need a off road permit available at many local establishments. I’m not certain how a Ranger would view the S10 regarding the need for a spark arrestor, I’ve never been stopped and checked. Be aware that you may meet quite a few UTV’s in the central and northern hills.

While there is trail riding open to Motorcycles in the Black Hills (contact the forest service in Spearfish or where ever they have an office) You will need a permit that goes on your bike. The Mickelson Trail which is about 100 miles is not open to motorized vehicles from the information I read. Do a google search and see what you get. Mickelson is an old railroad grade in the Black Hills and might be the historic trail you are referencing.
