Well squarebore, there is a difference between BS and Humor. No harm was meant. I would caution you to not believe anything you read on the internet.

Bahahaaaa….I learned that a long time ago. :D If he says some thing that makes you think "wait....what?", he's probably messin' with ya'. :D
Haha, yeah I am a little slow at times as I tend to trust until proven otherwise. I do love a joke though. So no harm done and I have learnt something.

I'm direct. After that, it's how you read it.

I am curious though. Your 65L is the 1200km+ route around? I average 42mpg and 65L is about 17 US Gal. That works out about right for the longer route and your DR likely does a little better on fuel usage.

My understanding from the OP was that he wanted to ride across the Simpson desert from Birdsville to Mt Dare and on to Finke. It's about 100km from Mt Dare hotel to Finke. If you use the desert track from Birdsville to Mt Dare, it's only ~500km. Seems like it would take a lot less fuel for that route. (I know it's more challenging, but it's what the OP asked about.)

My bad Squarebore.

All joking aside, That looks like a brutal ride. Better eat your Wheaties for that one. I cannot imagine riding a Super Tenere though some of those dunes!!

I'm guessing 65lt for direct partly via the french line. Let's say 600km. Take about 4 days. Normal fuel on s10 is 5lt/100km. So 30lts. In the Simpson you need to prepare for double your normal consumption (Lots of soft sand dunes including Big Red). So 10lt/100km for about 400km plus easier for the other 200km. About 40lt + 10lts =50lt. I've added 15lts as a reserve for backtracking, getting lost etc.

I don't think I could ride my S10 over big red. It was challenging on a fully loaded DR560.

Most people I know who have ridden the Simpson have been supported by 4wd or have left fuel/water caches. You need 6 lts of water a day per person as well. This makes for a heavy bike. If I ever do it, it will be on a wr450 carrying nothing and supported by a 4wd.

Guess after this I will get the continent by riding New Zealand.

But I still want to buy Trevor’s dad a meal.

Hi guy's having driven hay river track, the rig and qaa line, riding it on an s10 is difficult beyond belief, even sitting at home watching the guy on the 1190 do it on YouTube make me want to get in the fetal position and suck my thumb.
To do it unsupported, that's bike 260kgs plus food water fuel and gear, 100kg extra, to pickup each time it falls, and it will fall all the time no matter how good you are, hats off if you do.
I'm doing a double crossing French over and Madigan back supported on a secondhand DRZ400E much easier. With plenty of time on the dunes at Stockton beach.
