I decided to go with the WR250R. Found a sweet "end-of-model-year" deal on a 2019, picking it up next weekend. Will report back......
It's a fun bike. Try to curb your inner hooligan.... a little. ;)

Looks like things are narrowing down to a DRZ400s. Mostly due to availability. WR250s are as scarce as can be, and expensive a.f.

I was out looking at new ones (just kicking tires), and while they might be heavy on paper, they are still about 300lbs lighter than my decked out S10. 6 inches of snow in the forecast this week, so I still have lots of time to shop...

I've enquired on a TW200 that looks good, except for what the seller claimed to be a fried CDI box. I'm offering $500.
I have one....actually my wife does, I'm over the weight limit. It's a 75mph, 70mpg, easy to ride, mountain goat. The OE tires let it go up wet grass hills sideways. And since they haven't changes them at all....ever, except for color....you can find them cheap. Mine is an '01, 1,400 miles, perfect condition, for $1,400.00

I enjoyed a surprisingly good long weekend on a rented Royal Enfield Himalayan back in July. Not a lot of power, and some will say a bit heavy, but sturdy as a tank. And it generates a lot of questions at the roadside vista points. Four months later, I'm still considering it for my ST back-up. (Caveat: We do have a R.E dealer close by. Most folks probably do not.)

As much as I'd like a WR, the prices here on the used market are nuts. Eight to ten year old bikes are posted with asking prices within a couple of hundred bucks of brand new KLX250's.
