A KTM 390 is a fun bike that can be found for less than 5K and goes 75 mph or 121 KPH if you think that way. Actually faster than that but not for me

I have a KDX 200. Lovely lightweight bike but I would rather have a no pre-mix bike.

So fast forward a few months, I ran the old KDX for a few months, but it turns out it was capable of way higher speeds through the trails than I was ready to crash at, and thus I was stuck with something that was, it turns out, way too high strung for my needs. I also realized that street legality was more important than I thought. I moved the KDX along, netting $50 on the deal. Not bad.

Fast forward to later in the fall where we started doing leisurely rides in tight-ish trails with our friends and theor children, where they were all on ATV's (the lovely Mrs. RogerRZ included), at mind blowing speeds of up to 25-30mph. I was able to follow with the S10, but it's a bit of a handful, as you all know. Luckily, there were lots of hands to help when it decided to take a nap. ;-)

I did a bunch of looking/analyzing/shopping, and I found this little unit, that followed me home yesterday. I think it will fill the slow speed, smell the roses, easy to live with void. A 2018 with a tick less than 3000 miles. Bone stock, save for the olive green paint job. Should Do the job...B44D4FD8-F901-428E-A479-90235CB483C9.jpeg

Hmmm, will a KLX250 really cause you to ride slower than the KDX220? ;)

Hi there Roger, you are going to love that 250!! I have a little saddle time on those and it will give you years of reliability and function. A riding buddy of mine parked with us outside Death Valley and did full day ride exploring all the back roads.

Compared to the KDX the 250 opens a lot more options. But a properly jetted KDX is not bad either just not plated.

I had a KLX250 for a while. Bought it for my Wife. She rode it for a while, but then didn’t ride it. Even lowered it was too tall for her. I rode it and it is capable off road. I didn’t like that it had to wrung out at 7,000 rpm to have any power. That made it difficult to ride in tight technical/steep spots. It has a small gas tank, not much range.
It was a great bike, never let me down in any way.

If it's anything like my wife's XT250, it's plenty sedate and will just go and go at slow speeds all day long. I suspect they are comparable.

Not on your list but there are quite a few big thumpers mentioned....KLR, DR....
My recommendation would be check out a KTM 690 or Husqvarna 701 if you haven’t yet.

In order tpfor these to be a viable option, these two would need to be one of two things, in order to be in the running:

1. Cost the same as the KLX
2. Be as comfortable on a long ride (1000+ miles in one sitting).

As nice as they work, they just wouldn't do for my situation as part of A two bike solution. My S10's previous owner traded it in on a 701. They are very nice machines.
