Valve check every 3,000 miles. No thanks. Granted its car like screw and nut, not buckets like most bikes, but still seems a pain in the rear to me.

In that 300-400 cc bike range Versys-X 300 would get a look.
Heyup, Missenden flyer on you tube tested Royal Enfield,, I worked out that 10000 miles would cost £1300 for servicing, Yes I know you would have to be a muppet to not service yourself, but some will be paying it.

My summer bike is a zx14r. This is my bike of choice for touring and long distance. I’m enjoying the S10 but it’s too slow for touring so it’ll stay as my winter commuter

"if the 400 sells (no rush, I've got all Winter) might go late model 300EXC or similar."

I can tell you without reservation, the KTM 300 is a FINE machine...... I have a 300 EXC.

I didnt mention as its a 2 stroke, but for me thats where the love is. Im a 2 stroke guy. The new cutting edge 4 cyl KTMs are a PITA. Ill take an occasional topend on my 300 over the valve adj and topend headaches of the 4 strokes. Mine has been absolutely perfect. Best dirtbike Ive owned. Its often referred to as a 3 stroke. You can lug it around like a 4 stroke or man up, hang on and rip. 225 lbs over 50 HP the bike is a bike that makes the ugly stuff easy..... Its a mtn single track ripper, west coast desert ripper, do it all billygoat. Here in So Cal it sees the whole gamut. If youre a rider youll love a KTM 300. Always an easy starter, but they did throw e start on em too.

You must have a bunch of get out of jail free cards. The T-12 is fast enough to get you in trouble....the ZX-14 is fast enough to get you in jail. (it IS a great bike though)

My supplemental bike is a Ducati 1198. The S10 is great for touring, errands, commuting, (although I don't commute, I can walk to work) and the occasional exploring off road. But it is a big, heavy, relatively slow lumbering beast on the road. So for the occasional sunny Sunday ride and track day, the Ducati is a better choice.

Obviously, the S10 has about 10x the mileage on it as it's far more comfortable, practical, and versatile. But sometimes you just have to hoon.

I didn't meet the $5000 target but I did find a good deal on a 2019 CRF450L
I've been a 1 bike owner since I bought the Tenere 5 years ago.
Since riding the MABDR this spring it's made me want to ride some of the BDRs and other areas out west.
I feel like the Tenere is to big for that and I ain't gettin any younger.

Well, I can't say it's a bike to compliment my S10, since that got sold, but it's a nice contrast. I scored a Yamaha FZ6 for $1600 the other day. 45k on the clock, needs some minor preventative maintenance and some tidying up, but is otherwise sound. Adult owned, with the last guy for 20k miles over 9 years. His commuter bike in the summer.

Rode 200 miles home in 35-39F temps, but a nice dry, sunny day. 14k redline is a little different. It cruises at about 2k rpms higher than the Super Ten. 6200 rpm at 70 actual. It's rated at 98 Hp and has Skorpian slip ons, so I'll call it 100 Hp. Doesn't seem to mind running down to 3k rpms or so slowing down for towns to 30 mph. (down shifted to 5th after some experimentation going down to 3rd. In the power band, sort of like the S10 in that you're comfortable in 3rd at 30+, 4th at 40+, 5th at 50+, etc.

Congratulations. I'd look like the proverbial monkey on the football with that bike though.

So true! For both of us. Wait until I post a pic of the CT125 with me on it... Probably have to wait until this time next year for that though. I'm working on there being less of me, but in the end, not giving a shit goes a long way. Maybe I need one of THESE?

Hi Eric, I really like the handlebar style on that bike. It kind of reminds me of my Ninja 650R. Looks like another good buy!

Got to love old school 7/8" bars. I could swap almost anything on there, given enough cable/hose. Pretty comfortable sport/touring position though. I'm going to leave things as is for the moment.

Re-installed the factory rear mud guard/tail piece and turn signals today and wired them back up, leaving the squid tail light/turn signal integrator in place. Works nicely, better visibility with the OEM turn signals back on. Tank bag and a tail bag will be all the luggage I need for this bike.

I like that they have a deluxe LED model of that. Good reviews.

Congrats on the new bike. I've never had a FZ6, but if it's anything like my old FZ1, it's probably pretty quick for it's engine size.

Thanks. I had an '02 FZ1 back in '03, and they are very comparable, though the FZ1 ran lower rpms at the same speed than the FZ6 does. My second day of owning the FZ1 a light turned yellow on the local main drag and I whacked the throttle.... Pulled the front off the ground about a foot and scared myself spitless! Then promptly got pulled over by the local PD. By the time I got done explaining, he was laughing so hard he let me go with a warning. Being 40 years old probably helped. That was my first bike after not riding for a decade and I didn't expect it to wheelie quite so easily.

Aren't the FZs just tuned different than their R stablemates? Engine wise.
Yes. That's likely why the FZ6 has a 14k redline. The R6 is something like 16,500, IIRC, but no point when the FZ is tuned for more mid range.
