The "no insurance" thing is not exlclusive to bikes around here. In addition to not being able to get a vehicle inspected, which then prevents registration, two "no insurance" citations will get your driver's license suspended. And still no insurance is an epidemic. Which is why I carry uninsured motorist insurance.

No insurance is already happening especially with the younger crowd. A few years ago, I had a student who paid $5000 for the bike, the insurance was $13,000! So, he rode without insurance and hoped for the best. The license plate and tag are very small in Ontario, so reading it is difficult unless you were up close. There also not as many bikes on the road as there are in Southern states. So it would be relatively easier, riding without insurance unless of course, you have a cop stop behind you at a traffic light.
And let’s remember, in southern Ontario, riding season is at best 6-7months. April/May and September/October of the riding season are not necessarily warm.
Agree, a lot of riders get very creative and put a pseudo sticker on the license plate to make it look valid. Presently, due to the current circumstancesm, police are very reluctant to engage with a motorist and conduct a traffic stop. I rode across the 401 recently from approximately the Woodstock area to the Oshawa area and had a blast (zoom zoom) as there was only light traffic...if only those f*cki* cagers would get out of the left lanes.

Holy crap man! I just insured my bike for 6 months and it was $740!!! The only thing that included was $3,000,000 liability. It's another $300 for fire, theft and collision through a private insurer for a year. My '95 GMC Sierra was $1300 for a year full pull with $5,000,000 liability. The only vehicle I have that's "cheap", is my '82 Suzuki GS1100, @$297, but it has a collector plate on it, meaning it has to be STOCK and I can't ride it to work or school. Nooooo, I don't have lots of points or anything. I've got the maximum discount of 43%! Welcome to British Columbia and our Government run insurance company!
They guy who sold me the bike said the reason he was getting rid of it was insurance costs. I feel his pain!

I have lived in B-C for a year back in 2008. I decided to cancel my driving permit from Quebec , get the Bc driver licence (thinking that I could pass my motorcycle licence easily there...) and import my little Civic in BC. Wow! Have to pay an intensive mecanical inspection and repair a damn sensor for 450$! And It cost me 1900$ a year for plating and insure my little car!
can imagine for motorcycle!

I'm envious. Is your insurance in Sweden run by private companies or government?
Ontario Canada is all private gouging greedy companies

All private companies in fierce competition. Some cater more to us doing "death defying" hobbies.
To date, all doing a great job judging by my friends who unfortunately have had to test their services.

One of the great features of the UKs free at the point of use National Health Service (NHS) is that the insurance company has no medical bills to cover. So my ZX14R costs me £140 and the S10 costs £200 (its newer)

We have free healthcare too, and we still pay large for insurance.

There's the problem, government. Anything that the government touches turns to crap. British Columbia has far too many government employees and I'm sure that the insurance department are generously staffed and rewarded all on the backs of the tax payers.
In Ontario some time ago the government got it's paws on our electrical power system and they really screwed that up with massive piles of debt. Debt that we are paying heavily for and will pay for many years to come.

Hi Charles,
I hope that you are getting some riding in this spring. So far I have been out at least 12 times and about 3,000 kilometres. I'm in south western Ontario.

In Quebec you pay insurance fee when you plate your motorcycle . So you can have compensation if you have a accident and have like physical injuries.
And you have to pay another private insurance for the bike itself, odammage to other vehicule or anything else.
The plate just keep going higher and higher!

And yes I was able to ride a little, not much as a I would. Maybe 7-800km.
Now there law enforcement around my area. Its prohibited to ride except to ride except for essential like getting groceries or work...

Thanks for the information Charles.
Insurance for cars and motorcycles in Ontario is different.
We pay every year for a renewal sticker for your plate. But the insurance is purchased from private companies.
Yesterday was a warm day down here, Stratford Ontario, with a high temperature of 15 C. Lots of motorcycles and the police don't bother anyone.
Be safe

I pay 5240 a year for the house, two newer vehicles, and my s10. Horrible. Mind you the rates were pretty much the same when I lived in Alberta. zero tickets, clean record, no claims.

I think the main players in our ever increasing premiums are, first, the ridiculous cost of repairing a modern vehicle which quite often ends in total write offs and second, the ridiculous prevalence of distracted driving causing collisions. One feeds the other and we are left paying the bill.

Good point, some people are our own worst enemies.
Cell phone use while driving is rampant. A fist to a mirror would send them a stern message.

FYI, I just switched all my insurance from Intact to Wawanesa, I saved $120 on the house, (and better coverage) ,truck about the same BUT .......
My full coverage bike Ins on my 2014 Yamaha SuperTenere went from $1217 to ....$478 !!!
yes ,you read it correctly. $478 a year, FULL coverage
That's a really good deal. Just got the bill for my 2020 Super Tenere and it's $956CAD through TD/Security National for full coverage with $2M liability. It is listed as a commuter vehicle (instead of pleasure/touring) and it does include replacement value - if that makes any difference. My 2013 VStrom was $498 and my wife pays $395 for her little used 2016 CB500XA.

Got quoted 1252 on a 2020 Super tenere only 104 bucks less than my 1260 multistrada. 40 years of licenced riding no tickets no accidents ,I feel like they owe me a year or so of free coverage.
Still haven't been able to test ride a super ten yet to see if it's right for me .
