True Dat - BUT..!!
What if I am an out-of-state-buyer. That dealer in the other state isn't going to charge me my tax & fees for my homeland of Iowa.
So my OTD pricing (*there in the foreign state*) would be the price I get away from their dealership
... knowing that when I get back to Iowa I will add that money PLUS the fees & taxes locally.

So yes OTD is what your check is to the dealership -- but full well knowing when you license it locally in your home state you'll be cutting yet another check

I believe the "OTD - out the door - pricing is not including state taxes/license fees / doc fees / title fees.
Well if that is the case then I got mine for $11920, Got Gear Motorsports Ridgeland, Ms. speak with Raymond the sales manager in charge.
And I thought OTD is what you payed upon leaving the dealership, which is usually the bike, prep (if dealer charges), fees (if dealer charges), shipping (if dealer charges), tax, license, doc and title. After you've negotiated all of that (tax not negotiable) and have come to terms, that is your OTD price and you write a check and get the keys to the bike. Maybe I'm wrong?

Actually, it varies from state to state what a buyer is charged if they're buying from a foreign state. Some charge nothing, some charge an admin fee, some charge full sales tax with the idea that you'll get credited in your home state for tax paid. And whether you get credited towards your home sales tax (if any) varies too. For example, I'm buying in Texas and if I recall correctly, I'll get charged no sales tax or title fee as an out-of-state buyer, but will be charged a small admin fee to get a 30-day paper plate. I'll then pay full sales tax (actually called "use tax") and title fees in my home state. If I had paid sales tax elsewhere, they would credit me for paying it, but only up to my local sales tax amount - if the foreign state has a higher sales tax rate, then this is lost money.

No hard-fast rules about all this stuff. You have to call your DMV and check with the dealer about what he does with out-of-state buyers.

And there's the gotcha for CA buyers - if the bike is not certified for CA emissions, it can't be registered in CA until it gets a certain number of miles - 7500 if I recall correctly. I don't know if the S10 that Yamaha will sell in the USA is a 50-state uniform model or whether there will be separate 49-state and CA models.

On price comparisons, for a national forum, true OTD (which by convention typically includes EVERYTHING including state fees) is a poor comparison tool. What works best is "loaded price before state fees". Unfortunately, no one has come with with a catchy name for what this is called, so any discussions like this on the internet tend to be confusing.

Hello all,

I live in the Denver CO area and I'm interested in buying a S10. I purchased an FJR1300 in 2002, so I'm familiar with the PDP program. I used D&H
prices to get a smokin' deal on the bike and used a similar ploy to purchase a 2006 GL1800 ABS for close to 5k off msrp local.

Anyone in the Denver area been to local dealers talkin' price yet? I don't mind going down to Cullman AL to pick up a bike, but better to drive across town to get one I think.

Bob Vail, Thornton CO

p.s. I won't even comment on this OTD thing, other than what I give the dealer and he gets to keep. Other costs are beyond his or my control and I
don't factor that into any price for anything, including toasters at Target ;D
