I recently bought a new battery for my bike. the Yamaha dealer looked up the battery needed and although it was not a Yuasa it was the equivalent of the YTZ14S. I may be completely wrong on this so don't hold me to this information but from what I saw it looked like even Yamaha was recommending the YTZ14S now.

My bike came new with the 14. I assumed the battery is installed by the dealer, and likely isn't even shipped with the bike.

Going to follow WJBertand's lead and give the Scorpion Stinger a try. Been using oem batts since 2012 in two S10's with no problem, but I've grown tired of their quasi-anemic cranking offerings. Most of my riding is in the northeast and I only ride 3 seasons now so cold weather performance isn't a hit. Already have an Optimate 4s lithium specific charger so at least that part of the bullet's been bit.

Honestly, all it took to put me over the edge was to hear an S10 with a lithium battery start when I met a guy at a stop.

I know at least one other Tenere rider that fitted this battery and he is well pleased and makes similar observations to mine regarding the cranking ability. This morning when I started it, the bike was actually running almost the moment I pushed the start button. Warmer weather maybe?

That's good to hear, thanks. Looking forward to that improved cranking ability and audible surety. Was never let down by the oems, yet they still cranked slowly enough at times to plant the seed of wonder.

Replaced the Yuasa in my '14 S10 this month w/ a Parts Unlimited battery w/ upgraded CCA's like the YTZ14S. Costs about $90 OTD at the local dealer. If it lasts 2 yrs (or more), I'll be happy, especially since the cost of a new Yuasa YTZ14S was hard to swallow.
Regarding Scorpion batteries, I installed one of their AGM batteries on my Honda ST1300 a couple of months prior to leaving TX for a trip to Daytona a few years ago. Had to replace it while in Florida. When I got home, contacted Scorpion about their warranty and they wanted me to jump through several hoops before they'd honor the warranty. No plans to buy from them again.

Little doubt that the 14S will serve you well. With judicious tender use 2 years will be a breeze as long as it's a good unit. I sure hope not to share your customer service experience and remain hopeful based upon considerable reading. Like anything though, there will be lemons.

Even though the original 12s in my 2013 tested very good I replaced it with a 14s last August before heading for Alaska , it cranked significantly better with the 14s. When I traded for the 2018 I removed and kept the 14s but so far it’s just sitting on my workbench, the new 2018 has the 12s battery but seems to crank better than the 2013 did.

Well guys today I did it. I ended up ordering the EarthX ETX36C for my Super Tenere. This is going to be the first step to adding extra power and accessories to my bike.

It is one of the better lithiums, what with the over-discharge protection and their BMS. lt can work well and if as their site says "if maintained properly" by you, it can have a long life.

But it is one circuit in the BMS away from failure.

I have had great luck with this brand. 2012 Beta on same battery since new. Time will tell on this one.

Half correct. The battery is installed by the dealer, however, it is shipped with the bike.

Maybe "they" have been paying attention.
I bought my bike in 2012. I'm not sure anyone was talking about the weak batteries at that time. I guess it's always possible that the battery shipped with my bike was defective, and the dealer just used what they had in stock? In any case, I'm happy about it. The original battery is still going strong!

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
Just changed out my battery today it had the factory Yuasa battery with a March of 2013 date code on it. It was still going fine, but had a few long cranks lately so figured safe than sorry.

I threw a Amazon chrome brand 14s in it for $40 have used this brand in my other bikes with good results. But with the 6 year life the Yuasa I may pay the extra $60 for that brand on the next go round. See how long this off brand one lasts first.
