I have a 2017 1200ES and I just noticed the brake light, tail light, tag light and horn is not working. I checked all the fuses, all good except there is no power to the brake light fuse, either side. If I use my power probe and apply power to the brake fuse everything works fine just like normal. Last time I rode it on Wed. All was working fine. Does anyone know where the power for the brake fuse comes from. There is also no power to the brake relay, but if I apply power to it everything works fine. I’m not getting any power to the brake fuse or relay. Any help would be great. Tks. Jeff

Did you check with the engine running? I’m not sure about the tail lights, but the headlights don’t come on until after the engine has started, maybe it’s the same for the tails?

The headlights work, the only things that don’t are the brake, tail and tag lights plus the horn, engine running or not. I know that the no power to the fuse and relay is the problem but don’t know where the power comes from. If I supply power to the fuse or relay everything works. Tks. Jess

Was there anything you added to or did to the bike in the last few weeks/months?

No everything worked fine last time I rode it, I did ride in the rain, I wouldn’t think that would do it but never know. What ever supplies the power to the brake fuse is the problem but I can’t find where the power comes from I don’t have the shop manual.

The brake light fuse gets power from the signaling system fuse. After power passes through the signaling system fuse to the brown wires, the wiring is split off and goes to many different circuits, one of them being the brake light fuse. So carefully check the signaling system fuse for power. If power on it, but not on the brake fuse, a brown wire has come disconnected somewhere. Signaling system fuse seems the most likely suspect.

Tks Ron I will check it and advise.

FWIW, the owner's manual has a diagram showing the locations of the various fuses and relays. Towards the back of the manual, IIRC.

And unless you checked the fuses with a multi-meter, I'd say check them again. Fuses can look fine, but still be bad. What you described earlier, no power to the brake light fuse, but continuity across it, would indicate a bad signaling fuse, as RonH described nicely.

Hi Eric, I am an ASE certified Tech. I checked all the fuses all have power to them on both sides accept the brake fuse and it has no power going to it on either side, I checked it anyway with a multi meter and it’s good, even replaced it. The signaling fuse is good also. If I supply power to the brake fuse or brake relay with my power probe everything works fine, brake light, running light, tag light, and horn. What ever supplies power to the fuse is not suppling power. I also noticed the cruise is not working either when I drove it to the dealer. I got a circuit printout and and diagnostic check from Yamaha and everything it says to check is good, fuses, wiring, relays, horn. The last thing it says is replace ECU. Although it a 2017, I bought it new in Jan 2019 Being it is still within the original Factory 1 year warranty and I also have the YES 4 year extended warranty I’ll let Yamaha fix it. Once I get it back I will let everyone know what the problem was. I appreciate everyone’s input, if it wasn’t under warranty I would fix it myself by supplying switched power to the brake fuse and bypassing the problem which fixes all the problems. Tks. Jeff

Don't let them fool with the ECU. If voltage is on both ends of the signaling fuse, but neither end of the brake fuse, there is only one possibility, a broken or disconnected brown wire that connects the two circuits electrically. It's going to take digging through the harness. Hope they are competent. I have yet to find a competent dealer. They may elect to replace the entire wire harness, which would be a job I would not particularely want to do.

@ JeffB This is the EXACT problem I am having right now. I have tried to pm you to no avail. Hopefully you will see this and can elaborate on what the fix was. ECU or ignition switch maybe?
