If you don't want the history.

https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products/mc-4st-5w-40-100-pao-ester

So ages ago, when most of you were still in Nappies (Diapers for you 'Mericans) I decided I would stop my habit of using Motul and go on a hunt, as men do.
I slowly went mad in Oil forums, where I learnt that everything was awesome, especially Purple stuff, Learnt what base oils were from that BOB guy, read more stuff and decided for my sanity I would just try some German Stuff. I mean it seems to be great in BMW's right..:D
So I bought some FUCHS. Not motorbike oil, and the Tenere didn't explode, clutch slip or anything, it had a JASO MA rating and worked fine and the oil was just as good as the 5100 in the bike. Even lasted about the same and was cheaper. After a chat to the tech guy at FUCHS, turns out the Marketing on the bottle was a bit misleading, bit it was no worse than anything I used before. It was a semi Synthetic Grp II/III blend with a splash of PAO.

My gear change-ometer was telling me that it was done at 6000Km about the same as the MOTUL 5100. So next change I went to get some more only to find it was on special.

Talking to the store Owner it seems his customers thought it was Chinese oil and thought that the price was too high. Ok so I live in an area full of racists, but I scored 5 packs of good German oil for bugger all.

Many Km later that oil was not being sold anymore. So I just tried the Mobil 4T. My S10 didn't like that stuff at all. Vibes, Clunky Shifts etc. Felt like 6000Km old FUCHS straight out of the gate. Allegedly great stuff but not in my bike.

More homework. So now I knew the basics of how to read CAS Numbers Off SDS Sheets. So I found a few people who dared publish full specs on the oil.

One of them was Penrite. So I decided to try their top level stuff in my Baby. AWESOME!!

So my bike wasn't falling apart after all. Feels like a new bike. So give this stuff a go. I would be interested in others experiences. Now I am not saying that its the only good stuff out there and it isn't some trendy colour , just plain old oil colour, but its still awesome. I still don't know why it makes a difference technically. I still don't have a clue why one oil would make a bike rough when another doesn't especially with a dry sump. Maybe it's just plain old slippery-er. I will update later based on feedback from my Gear Change-ometer or at 6000Km, see how it goes.

Just thought I would share.

Hey mate, I've been using castrol 4t for about 10 years in my s10s and other bikes and always seems great. There is probably better out there but it's always easy to get at supecheap auto and they have oil filters now as well. I reckon if you sell bikes before 50k kms, it doesn't matter too much. Cheers

Because it starts off slightly thinner (About 6%) so the oil gets around the engine faster at startup. Its about the same as 10w-40 when the engine is warm, which is 99.9% of the time. Its actually a few cSt thicker at high temps. (14.7 Vs 14.4). Not really any big deal. It was the fact that the oil was really what it said and didn't cost $150 that got me using it. Still going great. I mean if I can find an oil that is the same viscosity at all temps I would be ...
wait for it...

Think i'll try one of these oils next as it is handy from either Supercheap or Repco over here and the bikes due for a change.

Dumped in my rego in the Supercheap 'what fits my vehicle' and it gave me suggestions for the S10

So ive changed to the 10/40 PAO ESTER Penrite yesterday and rode a bit over 200kms today and first impressions are pretty good,
Shifting seems smoother and the engine not so vibey also its less clattery sounding - compared to the ELF 10/40 semi that was in there. I service every 6000kms.
See how it goes during this cycle but i think i'll be using this from now on.

I just put a hundred miles on my first oil change with Motul 4T 7100 10w40 which is an ester based full synthetic.

Shifting is actually noticeably smoother than with the shell rotella t6 i have been using. So far so good. Ill send it to the lab when i hit 4000miles.

I would never buy cheap oil. There’s a reason for it being cheap. It’s the most important part of the engine. So it’s Motul 7100 for my baby. Changed every 3500 miles.
