This is what it looked like after the headers came off. I think it was blowing as i lost paint from the engine there and the Alrider crash bars have lost their coating there aswell. Any thoughts ?20220919_140056_HDR.jpg20220919_140100_HDR.jpg

Exhaust gases are bloody hot where they come out of the head, I reckon there’d be considerable burn/scorch marks if there was any blowing.
I think what you’ve got there is just the typical hot engine/British weather/difficult area to clean properly issues.
While you are in there and it’s easy, I’d have that coolant pipe off for a re-paint and give those exhaust studs a good wire brushing before checking the state of the threads. If the corrosion has got to them too much they’d be easier to change now rather than after you strip the threads. The gaskets don’t look like theres any blow by on them but since you’ve got new it’s got to be worth using them on re-assembly

I didn't have any problems with my 2013 install except my Arrow kit came without the bung plugs for the air sensor holes, so I'm running the Arrows with the sensors. I get somewhat poor mileage (35-38 mpg) from what I read others get, so I wonder if that may be one reason for it. Maybe I'll disconnect the wires and see if there's a difference. I'm running the oem muff so far, big and heavy but doesn't sound so bad with the Arrow in front of it.

Thanks for the reply. I think that pipe has been painted more times than Jesus. I went around the whole bike and did everything I could see. The Dremal got a good workout. Cleaned the threads up and put new nuts on. I certainly would have renewed the studs but was concerned about them snapping and leaving me with a job I might not be able to do with my limited skills.

I think the stock pipe sounds ok. I changed mine as the Ardcases pannier rack i have was a bit tight. For me to get that mileage i would have to riding in 2nd and 3rd banging the rev limiter ( i ride a lot of roads that are bend after bend ) i would certainly consider getting it mapped on a dyno.

At 75, I'm a relatively conservative rider, never near a rev limit, and I use all of the gears progressively as I ride, just as designed. 2013 with only about 8600 miles on it. Bought it from a dealer at 5600 miles, so don't know much about it's early life. Maybe it just doesn't like me.

You should stretch it out now and again. These engines are tough and it will not harm it. Mine felt better after 10k aswell so it may improve with time.

That actually sounds like fun to this old fart. I won't ask the wife for her opinion, she hates bikes anyhow (it's the medical professional in her).

mine was exactly the same, painted 7-8 times, took it off to sand down and paint again as a spare as i had a new one off ebay for £28 instead of £70 i think

Forgot to put this up. This is what the o2 sensors looked like. Is this an indication of running lean . I would have thought they would have been darker.20220920_180643_HDR.jpg
