Arrow Headers After Install?

Those of you who installed Arrow headers, did you get a custom map right away? I’m planning on doing the install then riding to the dyno shop an hour away by freeway. I also have a Power Commander with O2 Optimizer installed that will adjust air/fuel ratio to 13.6:1 as long as I stay under 5k RPM and 50% throttle.

I have a 2014, will keep stock muffler. Maybe use the 2011-2013 map for Arrow header/stock muffler?

If you running the arrows with the cat still in , your fine . You don,t need the PC and optimizer . It,s not flowing enough with the cat and stock muffler to be lean . You have to uncat it ,and a good can ,and open the intake to need the PC . But I could be wrong if they leaned out the 14 but I don,t think they did . I,am partly wrong there is no cat in the arrows , sorry .

Please post back with results ! I have a 2014 & been on the fence about going with a slip-on/headers PC/auto tune. I havent seen much info on exhaust/tuning mods done to the 2014.
Thanks

There are areas that are rich, and others that are lean.. Here are a few questions..

Where is your auto tune bung welded ?
What other mods are you running, or plan to run ?
Do you still have your stock 02 sensors installed?
Are they still plugged in (like stock)
Are you running the optimizer ?
Are you running the clutch jumper mod ?
Are you looking to do the flash ?
Are you running stock air filter ?
Have you synced the throttle bodies and turned them out 3/4 turn?

For customers that buy there parts though us we offer the correct software they will need, and guide them to making the Tenere Rock-N-Roll...... Shoot me your email and Ill send you a map or two to get started, then let AT do its thing...

Thanks for the responses. Here are my answers to Tabasco’s questions:

Where is your auto tune bung welded? I’m not using Auto Tune, will get custom map after header install
What other mods are you running, or plan to run? Stock with PCV & headers
Do you still have your stock 02 sensors installed? Yes
Are they still plugged in (like stock)? Yes
Are you running the optimizer? Yes
Are you running the clutch jumper mod? No
Are you looking to do the flash? No
Are you running stock air filter? Yes
Have you synced the throttle bodies and turned them out 3/4 turn? I’ll have them synced when I have the valves checked in the next week or two. Don’t know about the 3/4 turn out. What does that do?

TenereStreets,

How ya doing? :)

Hey, I'm far from a tuner expert, but I have the full arrows exhaust and the PV5 and the autotuner (with its own exhaust sensor) and the Flash to the ECU. (OEM sensors are not connected)
I'm actually ok without having the autotuner, but that is because others have done so much work building maps over the years, that the maps they have built for this configuration are so close that the autotuner probably doesn't have much to change. (a mouthful. sorry) But, I WOULD highly recommend getting your ECU flashed. IN my opinion, even with the headers, that made the biggest leap in how well the bike feels and runs. The PCV just corrects the fueling from that point.

I'll put it another way.........
If I had to give up either the PCV or the Flash, I'd give up the PCV.

Keep in mind that mine is a 2012 and the Flash DOES make a bigger difference for the older Teneres than I have heard it does for the newer ones. But a good flash really makes this bike run completely different. Then add those sweet headers and she can breath better too.

By the way, Jaxon did all mine. (Tabasco-above) And even he might disagree with me. But this bike runs fantastic with the flash and headers. It just runs even smoother with the PCV sorting out the fueling even better.

My ECU-U Flash still surged so I had mine custom flashed on a dyno, in the UK this cheaper than buying the power commander stuff required and less than half the price of all the Power Commander stuff and setup.

The poor running zone is very low revs / very small throttle openings so I would not worry about riding fairly normally until you get it setup properly.

Cool. Back out the (R) throttle body screw 3/4 of a turn & sync the (L). And then Email me and you can try a map out... Or call me and I can go over a few things with you, just depending on what your bike objectives are....

Rasher, have you backed out your throttle body ? Will help your low rev issue...

I’ve decided against the flash for a few reasons. Mainly I’ve read on/off throttle gets snatchy which I don’t want. Secondly I feel 1st through 3rd is pretty quick already for my 160 pound bodyweight. And, I spend a lot of time in 3rd and 4th gear and it doesn’t look like there much gain there with a flash based on ECUnleashed’s dyno graphs. I think more top end from headers is best for me.

ECUnleashed dyno graphs: http://ecunleashed.com/product/2014-yamaha-xt1200z-super-tenere/

What does backing out the throttle body ¾ turn do? Does it not fully open stock?

He is running the Arrow headers. You cannot run them with the CAT, because the CAT is welded to the OEM headers.

I have no issues, it runs perfectly, I can drop down to well below 2,000 rpm in any gear and hold the bike steady and pull away smoothly, the fuelling and throttle response is exceptional now. It also feels extremely smooth and the tickover is a lot more steady.

Finally feels "right"

I got the Arrow headers installed and the bike runs very well with no surging at 2k RPMs. Also thanks to ~TABASCO~ for suggesting the ¾ turn out on the throttle bodies. I just had that done along with the valve adjustment. The bike is smoother in the very low RPMs and the chugging is gone which I kinda liked. Next week I’m getting a custom PCV map done.

Can anyone explain these measurements on my valve adjustment work order under “Recommended Repairs?” I was told all the valves needed adjustment however the intake numbers look unchanged.

Why bother with header and PC if your not going to flash . You will only get so much power out of the first 3 gears any ways . The misconception is the flash is on or off , you can taylor the throttle to anything you want .

The flash was the best single mod I've done to my bike, turned a good bike into a great one.

Maybe they meant all exhaust vales needed adjustment ?
Just wondering how the custom mapping & headers worked out & if you got a dyno graph you could share or maybe some before & after HP gains. My stock 2014 is pretty good down low but a little more top end would be nice.
Thanks

You'll get that and more with Arrow headers. Check out this post.
