I thought I would treat the bike to a set of led turn lamps, but it looks more complex than I thought. I have just got most of the rear light assembly off, but unlike the old days, their are no strait forwrd connections. I have not started the front yet. Any advice would be appreciated.

It has been done, but you would need resistors or indicators with built-in resistors. IIRC when it was done, they used 'Rizoma'............

Hi,
i,ve used these genuine yamaha one £200 for the front and rear, my mate fitted them it was a night mare getting the standard ones off and these fitted took forever , but i can honestly say front running lights and rear running plus indicators and breaks are superb everybody that seen the bike comments how good they look but would,nt pay what they cost

No,
these yamaha ones have 3 wires with risistors, back ones were 1 wire to indicators, 1 wire to brake light, 1 wire to i assume a switched live, so the back is when ignition on the top parts come on as runnng lights, then when you touch the brake the top running light flashes on and off ass a break light, then when you put indicators on left or right, the bottom part of the led is the indicator.
similar then for front.

2 wires are for the yamaha led indicators that are just indicators, the ones i have are yamaha running lights with indicators thats why you have the extra wire to get the led running lights back and front plus break light and indicators to work.

no electrian as i didn,t fit mine but hope this helps a bit.

Another option on the system is if the LED signals you have don't have resisters, just replace the flasher relay with one designed for LED lamps. Common to find and has been done by others here in the past.

Managed to fit the rear set. But now I am not sure the running lights are street legal in the UK. I have sent an email to the seller MotoGB. They have replied saying he will contact Yamaha and get back to me.

Yes. I looked at the cheaper ones that Yamaha sell, but liked the look of the more expensive set (well, you can't take it with you) I did not realise the running lights where as bright as they are. And as they are always on, when it was dark in my garage they almost overwhelm the bikes brake light. I don't think I will start on the front before knowing for sure on the legality. Just getting into the back end light housing was a PITA.
Below are pictures of the running lights, the bottom photo with the brake light on. 20181109_075741.jpg

i know the front was worse than the back just to get at them i think alot around the headlight had to come off and the coloured panels each side of tank. one of the lads that rides with us on a gs is a traffic cop bikes that is he thinks the running lights are a winner so with him and passing mot,s i wouldn,t be to concerned about legality.
the worse thing with fitting these was the amount of stuff that had to be removed
