on the gen2 that bar end, once the hanguards screws removed, need a 12mm hex key. But it is hard as hell and scared to strip everything. I don't want to heat because I don't want to scrap my grip. Is there red loctite in there? what did you do. need your input please.

Do you know a impact driver like this? This is nice to have in your toolbox.
Make sure you put enough WD40 kind of lubrication on thread area in case it is gulled.
Good luck.

This is a picture form Craftsman, but you can find similar stuff everywhere.

One of mine was really difficult to remove and eventually, I left it and got the dealer to do it next time the bike went in for a service. Turned out to be corrosion. A good dollop of copper grease afterwards has kept things sweet. :)

I'm with you on this. Some penetrating oil/WD40 for a while. Then a tap with the impact driver. Not too brutal though, just a firm tap with a light hammer is usually all it needs - just make sure the bit fits snugly, to avoid any risk of a cam-out damaging the screw head. Seems to work across all the bikes I have tried this on, whether the bar has a welded insert, or an expander. The tightness can be corrosion or sometimes blue threadlock.

The Gen 2 bar ends just screw into the bar - there is no weld nut or expanded bolt.

Once you take the handguard small end screw off (and inside and outside washers)
You are left with the bar ends.
If you look at the end you will see surrounding the thread of the smaller bolt you just removed there is a hex impression - it is not that deep and not that noticable!!!
But you can take a 12mm Hex or Allen socket and just remove the whole bar end.
Mine was hardish to remove but doable so take it easy - the hex impression is not that deep.
I used a 8in long 3/8 wrench and just held pressure on the turn (anticlockwise) and it slowly broke the seal and undid.
As other have said a but of WD40 overnight will help.

I just took mine off two days ago to put on a pair of heated grips. (Yes, I know it's summer). After reading these posts I had all sorts of nightmare scenarios running through my head. I went to Sears where I found a simple 12mm(last one) allen wrench about six inches long. A little WD on the outside seam, firm pressure with my palm against the turn in the wrench, because it is shallow, and pop! Came right off, both sides. I didn't need any breaker or anything but the short wrench. Of course I have forearms like Popeye, but you should manage easily. Sad how empty the shelves at Sears were. Maybe half the tools they normally carried.
