Like to do this but it seems these options for a bolt on part are not produced anymore. At lease I can't find any.

Any good ideas out there?

Thanks...........

Altrider “made” one. It’s been out of stock for a long time. My understanding they quit making it.

Whoops, you're right. I didn't see the "out of stock" notation when I first looked at the web page. I must have been distracted by the $176.97 price tag.

As stated about not being produced I did notice that Altrider did not have them in stock and from what I've read that has been that way for quite some time. The HB option is a no go also with my current GIVI set up. I also saw at one time Touratech made one, but long gone also. I'll try find one for a different bike and not use the mounting brackets and make my own brackets to fit the S10. Now to find the most cost affective option.......

Based on your discovery of the apparent unavailability of a pillion mounted luggage plate, the easiest option seems to be to just make one. I've made a couple luggage racks for myself out of 3/16 thick aluminum, which is available from a vast selection of online metal suppliers (including eBay). If you're up to the task of making your own brackets, then making the luggage rack itself shouldn't be an issue. It doesn't have to be aluminum; HDPE (the stuff they make cutting boards from) is a good choice as long as you get a thick enough piece. Guys on here have made luggage racks out of actual cutting boards.

This is a luggage rack I made for my old V-Strom; it was the first one I ever made.

This is the current one that's on my Super Tenere:

They're both just flate pieces of 3/16" aluminum sheet. They were cut out using a hacksaw, a handheld scroll saw, and a coping saw with a coarse blade. There aren't any bends to make; the angled sides are just hardware store aluminum angle, bolted to the sheet. Right now there's a 16" by 3 foot sheet of 5/32" aluminum for sale on eBay for twenty bucks that's big enough for multiple luggage plates.

A pillion luggage plate would be even easier to make. I doesn't even need a complex shape; a rectangular piece would work fine. You can make slots around the perimeter for attachment points by just drilling two holes for each slot and joining them with a scroll saw.

Seeing a piece of aluminum with holes cut in it that cost almost $200 is what caused me to make my first luggage plate.

RCinNC: Nice craftsmanship and thanks for the idea and pictures. Now I'm intrigued with the idea of a design to combine the pillion section and rear section into a single plate (removing the OEM rear rack).

What did you use to smooth the edges after a saw cut? I've used flap discs on steel but aluminum seems to clog the grit on the disc.

Thanks rob. If I didn't ride two-up as often as I do, I'd probably have done that project already. For touring that involves any camping, that extra long uninterrupted shelf would be great for a duffel bag or a tent. If I was going to design that project, I'd probably incorporate an attachment point for a Rotopax fuel container.

I have a couple of those $8.99 sets of hand files from Harbor Freight that I use for the initial smoothing on the edges, and a few individual files I bought at the hardware store over time that give a little bit of a finer finish. After that it's just wet/dry sandpaper wrapped around a sanding block.

So, I sent a note to Altrider to see if they could find an old dusty one on the floor that fell off a shelf and I got the below response. Maybe if enough people weigh in they'll put it back in production.

"I am checking in regarding the Pillion rack for the Super Tenere. Since I am the person who talks to the customers sometimes getting my superiors to believe what I am saying takes evidence to prove my point. I am currently making a list of all the customers who have requested the Pillion rack from me, and I noticed that you mentioned seeing mentions on the forums that it is a sought after part? If you happen to come across this link again in the future or if any other Super T riders you know of are looking for this part, please have them call or email me their request!

If you want to make a post on the Super T forum saying I am making a list of people who would by this part if we can get back into production, and for sale in the next year. I would love to hear from them.

Would you buy this if we put it back into production?

Let me know,

I was looking for a Touratech tail rack a couple months back. Out of stock of course. But I got the impression that they'd one-off a special order on request. It's all just a program, poke a couple buttons and there you go.

I only ever ride with a single seat, and like others have been struggling to find a rack still in production.
I gave up waiting and managed to use an off the shelf EBay BMW GS rack and make it fit, may not be to everyone’s taste, but it works for me and the luggage I travel with.

it was also a much cheaper option too.

Great idea, but I'd have to chop it off to leave room for my existing Altrider rear rack. This BMW knock-off looks like it would intrude into that space.
