Any issues re-flashing newer S10's?

Hi all! I'm new here. Current KTM owner, considering a Super Tenere for 2-up touring.

There are several 2018 S10's for sale in my area. Can the 2018 model year be re-flashed?

Reason I ask is that starting in 2017, KTM locked the ECU's on all their street legal bikes to prevent modifications like this. Wondering if Yamaha might have done the same?

I don't think Yamaha has locked their ECUs yet but Anthony would know. I believe there are folks on the forum who've flashed 18 and newer models.

Being the owner of a KTM, it would be interesting if you clarify, which KTM model you have and above all, what do you hope to achieve by reflashing an S10?

I have a 790 adventure.

I would re-flash to correct the very lean fuelling as delivered from the factory. The bike will run smoother and cooler, and maybe have a little more power after re-flashing.

Anthony told me it’s a myth the Super Ténéré is too lean as delivered. Conversely he says it’s rich in some ranges.

That’s certainly not my experience. When I got mine flashed the OEM map was so lean it was off the scale!!

I've made the commitment to reflash my 2022 ST. I've flashed other bikes' ECUs with great results (including. most notably, my '18 V-Strom 1K), and have read many positive reports on the ST. I'm having a bit of an issue with removing the ECU, however. There is one thread here that has some photos and explanations, but they don't quite seem to match up with what I see. There seems to be a fastener in the middle of the component module that contains the battery, wire bundles and some small electronics. I can't see the where to remove it, and understand there's a way to get at it from the "other side". Anyone have better photos or explanations? I look through the forums. Thanks!

Do it! The Super T is a mule. Just select two helmets and two bags on the electronically adjustable suspension, and head out!
I cannot comment on the flash.

There's no telling which path he took. He was last on here in October 2022. I'm assuming he stayed with KTM.

Did the deed. Thank you for the help! The ECU is on its way to 2 Wheel DynoWorks. I have a '22 ST, which looks a little different from the video @Strummer suggested, but it was close enough.

An important note is those two plastic plugs on the upper bodywork/fairing panel in the front intake area - at least on my year - are NOT meant to be yanked out. There is a small "button" in the center of the plug you push in and the plug releases itself. I'd highly recommend taking off the small horizontal plastic vanity panel between the fairing pieces so you can get to the bottom button easily.

And while you're in there with the stuff in the front off, install that new Denali SoundBomb Mini horn you just bought (should buy!). It's 2X louder than that embarrassingly crappy stock horn. Have one on my V-Strom 1K and it really helps in traffic.

Also, it was not necessary to unmount all of the electrical modules to pull the panel down, only the right-most two, which allowed for the panel to swing down plenty far enough to get at the ECU. Note: the panel also had two plastic plugs holding it in. The allenhead screw in the back was the biggest PITA. Almost no room to work; it just took longer than expected. Don't know if I'll have the time to take some pics, but will try.

After reading so many rave reviews about flashing I was considering having my 2018 flashed.
But then after reading about the flashers getting big fines for doing it and most of them quitting the flashing business I decided to forget about it.
Many claim they get better mpg after having the Tenere flashed, the only flashed Tenere I have ever actually ridden with is Tenere Guy and whenever we filled up with gasoline he usually takes about a gallon more than I do.
