Looks identical to OEM but costs less. Almost thinking this is what Yamaha uses as OEM.

Thanks for the info guys, can’t remember now but I think the Hi-Flo was about 70% the price, maybe a little cheaper than that.

I’ve used hiflo in my R6, combined with an powercommander and some other upgrades. Can’t say if the filter performed better, but the total package did for sure.

Thanks again. The reason I ask is that someone on the facebook Super Tenere page claims they "don't fit worth a shit". Sounds like he's full of shit himself or has bought the wrong part. I have a Hi-Flow air filter on my bench but have not yet installed it.

Hi-Flow is very common with indi shops. Good quality, less cost for the customer and a reasonable margin for the shop. I've used them many times on different bikes w/o any fitment issues and they seem every bit as good as the OEM filters in terms of filtration. Wendy Crockett sold them at her shop in CA. I asked her opinion about them long ago and she had a positive perspective. She wouldn't sell crap and couldn't sugar coat her opinion if she tried.

I've used them for years on various bikes both oil and air filters and all have been fine.

I could be mistaken but I seem to remember that a few years back I read that Hi Flow made a lot of filters for the major manufacturers

PS Just found this:-

where it claims:-

Why Hiflo?
Providing unbeatable performance and exceptional value, Hiflofiltro is the best-selling brand of aftermarket filters for motorcycles, scooters, and ATVs worldwide. The filters are also supplied to original equipment manufacturers as well as private label brands.

I've never used their air filter, but I've used their oil filters a bunch over the years.

I'll be checking them out when it's time to switch the air filter in the SuperT in the spring.

It is a common practice in the industry. Baldwin, Fleetguard, Donaldson, Purolator et. al. make cross over filters and in the case of specialty or low volume filters, they will manufacture them for each other. On the liquid filters it is easy to spot if you know what you are looking for. Air filters, likewise just more subtle.

I seriously doubt Yamaha makes their own filters. They may but more likely do not even own the tooling for the filters manufactured under their name.

Borrowing SkunkWorks' image from above, I ran into a glitch with a HiFlo air filter today.
The triangle area below the red line was angled upward more of the HiFlo than the OEM filter.
When I tried to see if it would flex downward, I heard the sickening snap of plastic cracking.
It didn't break clean in two. So, I carefully applied some sealant to the pleated (incoming air) side across the weakened line.
The airbox lid pressed everything into place evenly and I have no concerns about it leaking.
Still, I wonder what would've happened if I'd tightened the airbox down and it cracked afterward without my knowledge?HFFAF.jpghfaf.jpgHFFAF.jpg
