Hey all, my name is Rusty. I totaled my 1150GS a week ago when I hit a deer at 55 and took a spill.

The Tenere is on the top of my list right now. But I wish I were more comfortable with my decision......

I love to hit the dirt, and I am an Iron Butt guy. I will be riding the 2013 IBR.

How well does this thing eat up big miles?

PM OX-34. He had top install an extra 20L fuel tank so he could finally get a sore ass :D

But he is an Aussie and we seem to have tougher asses over here.

Anyway before this gets too brokeback, I have had no troubles doing 800Km days.

I usually do a big slabathon to get to the big dirtathon before doing a slabaothon back.

So far all I can say is I am more than happy.

I think it's the "lack of excitement" the bike delivers on the road. It just feels really relaxed at most legal speeds and generally un fussed.

You don't have to concentrate that hard, it's competent enough that even surprises aren't that much of a big deal and it's something that just grows on you over time.

I have to keep adjusting up a few of my mental limits, especially off road. I am still going for seventh though. Even the overdrive is not tall enough for this thing.

I am not an IBA person officially and tend top stop and set up camp before the sun goes down but where I live there are big distances to be covered and this big does it well IMHO. Otherwise I wouldn't have bought it, would I. ::024::

Cheers
Graham

Welcome aboard Rusty! Sorry to hear about the crackup and loss of your GS. The Super10 has been the first bike that I've owned that makes me feel confident and comfortable to target places far away. I have many 500-600 mile days in the saddle, one 850 and as of a couple weeks ago my first SS1000. Next week I'm off to N.C.; next month I'm off to the Yukon and Alaska. It eats up miles trouble free and all that's on a set of 50-50 dual sport tires and the stock seat...although I just took delivery of an airhawk for the Alaska thing. ;D

Welcome on, Rustykfd from Washington. I drove mine down to southern B. C. last fall and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it's more comfortable than my ST1300, but that's just me. Maybe I just have a big butt. I don't think long distance riding will be an issue. Anyway, ::004:: to the Forum. R ::022::

Rusty, Welcome to the forum. I bought my S10 for a trip I am making in July - Dallas to the Arctic Circle (Alaska) and back. So far, I've only done day trips (5 to 6 hours at a stretch) but have been very comfortable. I am attempting a Bun Burner Gold over Memorial weekend, so will know more then.

I encourage you to dig into this forum - lots of great info and opinions. I am confident you'll end up in our camp. ::008::

Welcome aboard!! I think it really comes down to the saddle on most bikes comfort for LD riding. My longest single day ever was on a R1150GS coming home from Kimberley BC. 1240 miles. I was beat when I rolled in. Sunday I rode my Tenere straight through from Marble Falls AR to home. 885 miles and I was again beat. Perhaps some of the difference is I'm 11 years older than when I made that ride on the GS. ;D

Good luck with whatever decision you come to!!

Welcome Rusty, You won't be dissapointed at all. Each but is different of course on the saddle. To me, this is more comfy than my Honda ST1300 I had in the past if that tells you anything!!! Good luck, finding one. I know of a dealer in central WA who has sold 6 Tenere's now if you want a lead on that!!!

Welcome Rusty,
Perfect color choice by the way. You do know the black XTZs are faster than the blue ones. Right? ;D
BTW: I'm over in Portland.

I was hoping to get your formal opinion before I made the move, but the equipped blue Tenere previously located at the front door of Desert Valley Motorsports is in my garage.
I'm no iron butt and in fact I really don't know shit about bikes but this seemed like the right thing to do (after hours of research).
