Wanted to share some photos of the Super Tenere on its side with AltRider crash bars installed. You can see how much clearance exists between the bike and the ground.

You can see there's a nice large contact patch.

The contact points on the left (radiator) side are the crash bar, OEM center stand, side stand, and potentially the passenger peg. NOTE: we removed the side stand for the purposes of our testing, because we knew it would touch, and because the rod will probably break if the bike ends up on its side.

The contact points on the right (glove box) side are the crash bar, foot peg, and potentially the passenger peg.

For every crash bar we design, we verify the contact points with our prototypes. There’s no such thing as a perfect crash bar solution, but we think this one is good. These bars are made of one inch stainless steel, which means if you ever have a get-off, your bars will not rust. They also feature tight tolerances, because we don’t see any reason why you should have to bend, grind, or otherwise modify parts that were made for your bike. The billet connector makes the bars extremely strong by allowing impact on either side to be distributed throughout the system, reducing the chance that any one mounting point is overwhelmed. The stainless hardware is all provided, and we include Loctite with every order (except international ones, due to customs restrictions).

Like I’ve mentioned before, the glove box is also accessible with these bars installed.

You can read more information about our crash bars for the Super Tenere and other products on our website.

Thanks for posting these pics of the bike on it's side, Jeremy. I especially like that the side panels can come off without removing the crashbars. To me, I wouldn't mind a crashbar sticking out a bit further to allow this. I don't think the bit of extra clearance needed for that looks bad at all and it will be a bit handier to have that clearance. Not to mention the extra clearance gives a bit more room before uneven ground might get to a side panel.

So far, I'm liking the construction of these crashbars the best. You really have to see them in person to appreciate them. It was the details that impressed me. I like the strength and manner in which the two sides connect/meet in front of the bike. Some of the other crashbars out there don't connect to one another and bolt only to the two mounts on the front of the bike. I also liked the way the side tubes are welded to a plate/bracket and the one bracket is mounted to the two mount mounts. Some of the other crashbars have the tubes running to the individual mount points. That is hard to explain so I'll add a picture. The point being, all of the tubing is tired together and the force of a hit is distributed across all the mount points more evenly than if the tubes were mounted to individual mount points and/or not tied to the opposites side tube structure and mount points.

I saw the bike in person today at the Long Beach show; the bars complimented the lines of the bike, and with Jeremy's pics here, they look like a good choice to protect the side panels. I can't wait for May!

I too got to see the AltRider Booth and talk for quite some time with Jeremy today at the show. I think their attention to detail and thought behind their parts is top notch! The crashbars are well thought out and very strong. Great mounting points and look good too. These are prototypes and with the coming changes that Jeremy told me about, they will fit the bike even better than they do now.

The skid plate is very robust and the mounts are the key. These are not going to bend like the OEM version.

The Tail rack is just what I am looking for. Does not provide the option for a lower position to tie in with the pillion seat area if the seat was removed but this is not a problem for me. The size and shape fit the lines of the bike really well and will hold a good sized tailbag perfectly.

They also had some other nice prototype pieces that looked great too. I will let Jeremy reveal these in his own time. ;)

Jeremy, thanks for the time and great work that you have done. Looking forward to seeing more in the future.

Chadx, it was good chatting with you at the Seattle show, and I appreciate you taking time to check out our parts and meet the team. Thanks for the feedback on these bars -- we want them strong, functional, as well as (hopefully) attractive.

AVGeek, glad you had the time to stop by our booth. This bike has provided some good riding, and I'm sad to see it go... looking forward to May, too, so I can see pictures on this forum of all the shiny new US bikes. :D

SpeedStar, thanks for sharing you impressions of our parts. Enjoyed meeting and talking to you this past weekend -- look forward to seeing your bike when it arrives!

Hey, guys, wanted to give you a few updates. As mentioned, we were working to dial in the lines of the crash bars a little more -- fitment and function were our first priorities, but we want the bars to look good, too. A few things changed before beginning production, so here are a few quick images I wanted you to see.

We were able to finish up this video about a week ago, and in it our lead industrial designer talks a little about the manufacturing methods we chose and why.

AltRider Hard Parts for the Yamaha Super Tenere

The crash bars are available in raw stainless and black powder coated stainless, and can be pre-ordered now to reserve your set.

Jeremy, Good to talk to you the other night at the dealer open house. You mentioned you were working with some people to ship to Europe. Has there been talk on your end to make some hard parts for the existing Honda Varadero ? Although that doesn't sell here in the states, it has been a good sell in Europe for your kinds of products? I am sure there are many people that would still like to have options for the bikes out there.

Jeremy, the new lines on the crashbars are nice. I think they flow with the lines of the side panels better. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

Hi Jeremy!
I have reviewed the site and the posts. Pretty clear the "glove box" side cover can be removed with the bars in place. Please confirm you can remove the radiator side cover, and that you can get at the fuel tank fasteners and the tank raised.

Thanks,
Dave

@Dave: we're working to access a bike and get a definite answer. The bike we used for prototyping is now back with the guys at AdventureMoto.

In the mean time, check out this video our lead industrial designer, Don, just finished about our crash bars. In it he explains our manufacturing process and how the bars are designed to distribute impact energy, then demonstrates how they're installed.

So, we have word about the crash bars and the left side panel. ;D

When we saw Steve from AdventureMoto (our distributor in Australia) at the Dealer Expo last month, we sent him home with a set of crash bars to try out. He just got back to us and let us know that the left side panel cannot be removed while the bars are still installed -- but that it’s easy to unbolt the panel and gain access to the tank bolt covers. Dealing with your air filter should NOT be an issue.

He also mentioned we’d succeeded in providing some good protection and minimal overall width (good news, since he’ll be taking the bike on the Tenere Tragics ride!). We’re excited to finally make these bars available now that we’ve confirmed the left panel is not a problem.

Those of you who were waiting to pre-order until you got an answer -- you can still reserve a set from our first production run.

That's great new Jeremy!! I have already ordered, but would like to know when the production run will start. Or when will the bars and skid plate ship?
Thanks
