Alternatives to Jesse Odyssey II luggage-they aren't what they used to be.

Hey guys,

I have used and abused a set of Jesse Odyssey II's and sadly a substantial crash folded my left bag and I am in need of a new set.

Jesse luggage changed hands several times in recent years.

I guess the new Challenger design is what they offer now but they don't even drill the new bags properly with the offset bottom mount to even fit their own racks. I asked about getting a set undrilled and they won't do that since they stamp the holes (centered) before the bags are even welded to together to streamline production. Further the steep back cut at the front of the pannier is gone and in my mind makes the bags much more prone to catching ankles and boots. To be fair there are certainly improvements in the challenger design but the fitment and safety issues are non-starters for me.

Any other alternatives?
Touratech-The riveted together thin metal design wouldn't work for me, they are simply too delicate for the getoffs and tipovers I seem to end up having.
Happy trails-I see they have a newer design out there that is welded in and out.
Rumbux-Do they even make them any more?
Motech-?

TIA for any advice.

I have Holan's on my '18. Previously on my '12, the bags only have about 50K on them. So not a ton of miles. No complaints regarding finish (black) or being waterproof. They've been all over the western US and to AK three times. Plenty of capacity and love the narrow profile!

Go here: https://www.advmotorrad.com

Search by bike, take a look at the Bumot luggage.
I've checked out the Bumots and I like the case. The racks look pretty flimsy though compared to what I am used to on Jesse's.

I will give the Jesse's credit. I've had some pretty nasty spills and while I have bent racks and had to replace them (one hit even bent the stout yamaha subframe), I've only had one crack and fail.

I do wish they had a crossbar on the S10 though.

I have the Bumot Cases also.
I've never seen the Jesse Racks in person, but I can say that the Bumot Racks are plenty stout!
They do have a crossbar at the back also.
I have not yet put the bike down with them on there, so I can't comment on their crashworthiness yet.

I can certainly recommend Metal Mule cases. The quality of welds and the way they are put together is first class and the racks are constructed from thicker walled tubing than most.

Bumot’s. Flimsy, my *ss… Lol…
(FYI: no interest at all, just sharing experience!!)
If you don't mind could you share some more details of the mounting racks? Especially the connection at the left and right footpegs. It appears Bumot does not provide any reinforcing plate behind the left exhaust/footpeg side bracket, they instead only provide spacers if your bike doesn't have any OEM sidecase hardware leftover.

I agree the cases themselves look bombproof but coming from someone who has managed to bend a subframe with fully loaded Jesse's the racks and tubing seem kind of light.

Not bashing the product just trying to understand how robust the racks are.

Yes, I know you aren't supposed to wad up the bike but when you run true off road trails shite happens sometimes. :D

Let them speak for themselves, through a rough endurance test.
Did a thorough product comparison. Love to research and compare.
First that, and decide and buy later, but after looking and feeling…

Excellent review thanks for posting that. Glad to see the newer EVO panniers are sealed at the bottom via welding and not a gasket/rivets.

I spent quite a bit of time with Jason on the phone at ADVMotorrad and he was super helpful and very detailed on the racks and their crashworthiness.

cheers!

I completely agree about the original Jesse Odyssey-ll bags! Mine (58K miles) have been bullet proof and have survived some pretty severe conditions, including; 7 hours of driving lateral rain without a leak and being literally run over by an SUV (while providing me a perfect “pocket” to avoid a fatal outcome). They are still in great condition! I would comment further about the collision, but “legal” advises no comment at this time. Great bags, but I can’t comment on any others due to my lack of personal experience with them.

That review makes me appreciate my Bumots. I haven't tested them too much, other than with carrying cases of beer, but they've been great. Got a second set for my wifes's Tiger 800 and was jealous at the larger tool box, but ADVMotorrad was nice enough to provide a matching lock so we don't need a second set of keys. Top box fits my Arai XD-4.
