I just switched the philips screw for Allen on my brake and clutch reservoirs. They are different lengths so check the size before you change them.

They weren’t Phillips, they’re JIS and ideally a JIS screwdriver should be used, thus avoiding the heads getting chewed. The dot confirms JIS.

Most people dont realise the factory tool kits 'Phillips' is a JIS

Most of the trouble comes from folks over tightening those screws

Tighten to 13 in/lb. I got a torque screwdriver to do these small screws and highly recommend adding one to anyone's tool collection.

Oddly the clutch MC doesn’t have JIS screws.
The clutch MC may not be a made in Japan sourced component.

I guess that explains why the screws are a different length.

I had to change my screw too! I have a 6 mm allen head bolt in there now. the Super Tenere is the only bike i have ever owned that had recessed screw holes in the master cylinder. Of course the screw will break right at the top of the threads. I didn't have any luck getting it out so the recessed hole was just about perfect for a 6 mm tap. So here is the fix. I got a new master cylinder on the shelf now if i need it but it is working fine so it will stay that way till i have trouble.

Ironically, the Super-10 master cylinder is made by Brembo (who's home country is Italy) . Brembo with JIS. I guess that they were both Axis countries a few decades ago.
Thread pitch is the same - it's just how the screwdriver and screw slots interact.
Those black-oxide coated screws are prone to rust. Might be an issue if you travel frequently to the ocean in Mexico.

Thanks for the info. I don’t go to the ocean often but will see if I can find stainless steel.
