Hello and thanks in advance for any input. I am a farely new owner of a 2013 ST and am in the middle of a week long trip. After riding on a 10 mile Muddy gravel road my ABS and engine light came on. The TCS light will also come on after a minute or so after riding. Ive tried cycling the key on and off 3 times as instructed from a local Yamaha dealer that i called, but the issue remains. When i turn the bike off and begin my ride again, the ABS and engine light will be on, Then the TCS light will come on about a minute (or about 1/4 mile ) later. I am on my last day of mostly freeway dry miles, what wanted some input to see if maybe i can make an attempt to fix the issue myself before taking it to a shop. The picture below is the only picture i have of the road. It did get much worse with mud and gravel mixed together.
Thanks again.
Al

Did you take a look at the front and rear ABS sensors and see if either might have been damaged, maybe by some debris from the road?

Does a 2013 have a way to access the diagnostic mode through the bike itself? If you could obtain a trouble code from the bike, it might help you figure out where the problem is actually coming from.

I found this video on Youtube of how to access the diagnostic mode on a Gen 1 Super Tenere. That should cover your bike.

Definitely sounds like one of the wheel sensor no longer working. This is unusual as the magnets are pretty tough.
If one of the ABS sensor fails to send the signal to the ecm you potentially can get those lights effecting TCS and ABS.
You can remove the ABS sensor and check, it is only a 10mm (10mm wrench not bolt) bolt that holds them in place.

Also check the brake switches to make sure they are working properly.
Has your 2013 been involved in the wiring recall ? maybe that’s the problem

I got my 2nd generation stuck in some slippery mud. Had to spin the wheel and paddle walk it about 40’ up a hill.
Freaked out the abs and light came on.
My manual said it would reset at 19 mph but didn’t. Figured I know how to brake so rode it. Engine light came on and started a cascade of malfunctions (don’t recall the exact sequence).
Called around and nobody had heard of this.
Took it to a Yamaha dealer. Abs controller was toast. Lucky me had my other bike (long story about that) and mechanic swapped out the part. A very expensive job.
Fixed all issues.

Hello Guys,
i did the original inspection on the road with the bike still muddy, but after getting home and doing a much thorough inspection, it looks like the abs sensor screw had come out and the sensor i guess was in the slot but not fully. When i re-checked it, it had come out fully and the flat portion that the screw holds down had brown off. surprisingly, i put the sensor back in and temporarily duct taped it in place and rode it down the street. The lights all went out! so i guess i need another sensor/cable. Crazy, i think when they installed my new tires before my trip, they didnt fully tighten or use lock-tite on the sensor.

Was it the front or rear sensor ?
Sounds like maybe all you need is the new bolt to hold the sensor and cable in place.
Sometimes those cables get routed wrong during a tire change and that can lead to trouble.

Does anyone know the bolt size for the front abs sensor? the Sensor is intact, but the screw opening is broken in half. While i order the replacement abs cable. i want to use a screw and washer to hold the current broken one in place. Surprisingly, duct tape held it in place until i go home. all the lights went out when i taped it in place.

The screw head takes a 4mm Allen wrench, yes It’s the same bolt used on the rear sensor, you shouldn’t have much trouble finding a replacement bolt at a decent hardware store or just buy one from your Yamaha dealer. But make sure the wire is routed properly, yours wouldn’t be the first one that got broke because the wire wasn’t routed properly when the tire was changed. If you need to see a picture of how the wire is supposed to be routed I could take one for you.

Here is a very helpful thread with pictures that might help you.
