I'm thinking of trying something different with my Yamaha lower crash bars I already have the DSBP that have worked great so far but I'm not crazy about the way they look. I'm leaning towards the givi bars so if someone has experience with bolting the two together or any other brand let me know what was all involved thanks.

I'd also be interested. The DBSP bars do the job but they make stretching my legs on long rides difficult and they always get pushed in when the bike gets dropped. That means I have to unbolt, reset, and rebolt the bars every time if I want to access the battery or radiator panels.

Something more "sturdy" would be great if it works with the lower OEM set.

Well, not sure if you'll like the look, but Rumbux does offer an Add On bar that gives side protection to the Yamaha bars. It replaces the upper hoop with the Rumbux one, giving side hoops and a similar upper hoop in front.

Ooh, they work with the OEM lower bars. How does the section near the center of the bike mount? Is it a U-Mount on the lower OEM bar or does it bolt onto the bike somewhere? The DBSP upper bar is a U-Mount so it slides in when the bike is dropped.

The rumbux does look heavy duty I believe they use the same bolts as the Yamaha bars i almost pulled the trigger on them before I saw the DSBP bars

carrot is correct, you un-bolt the Yamaha upper section and the Rumbux slides into the Yamaha tubes and bolts at the center the same way as the oem bars. There is an additional mounting point on the side, that uses one of the two bolts that the oem plastic side drop protectors use. (the other bolt gets spaced out with a washer)

They definitely add a dimension to the actually very good lower protection the Yamaha bars give. The Yamaha skid plate is still mounted to the sump, but if that's not an issue for your riding, no biggie there.

One thing that bothers me with my current upper bars is that they stick out a little to far so when the bike fall's all the force is on them and from the picture the rumbux looks to stick out even farther

when I had my OEM's I rarely had the bike lay all the way over..........

Most of my dumps were short leg slow get offs. So when the bike landed the lower stopped the bike from falling all the way over, or until the handle bar hit the ground. Also I went with the Carribou cases, they helped as well. I did have one or 2 hard hits where the handle bar drug and the tires were off the ground. I also modified the ALT rider skid so it would work with the OEMS. I would have gone for the Rumbux but I lowered my bike........end of story.

I'm on my 2nd set of Rumbux upper add-on bars. Totally plug & play with the factory lowers. Makes a unique protection package. Highly recommend.

Soo, what happened to the 1st set of Rumbux add-on uppers: Me 'n the S10 got tee boned by a drunk driver in an intersection. Bike went down on the right side at 35+ mph & slid for over 20 ft. Both lower & upper bars were ground down through the outer tube walls. (PS: my body bounced & rolled 40 ft. All the gear worked. Skinned knee & elbow, bruises all over, but nothing broken. Point of impact was rt. side Pelican case.)

I haven't seen the DS and Rumbux side by side. The shapes and way they stick out are designed to take the weight of the bike as it lays over. The Rumbux may have some advantage over the DS in how it's mounted up and can't shift on the OEM bar, since it replaces the upper hoop fitting to the Yamaha lower in the same manner as the Yamaha upper, but adding another mounting point.

I know people have successfully mounted lower Rumbux with Givi, but have not read where someone has mounted the Givi with the lower or complete Yamaha bars.

I was thinking the same thing.............glad it all worked out.

Carrot I have my old ALT Rider skid plate, if you are interested, might need a few new bolts. Had I thought about it I'd kept the cross bar from my OEMS. I can tell you how to tweek it.....

Thanks Patrick I'll keep that in mind not exactly sure which direction I'm going to go yet. What skid plate and bars are you running now?

Other damage: Rt hand guard (replaced both to match), rt mirror (slight scratch buffed out) , Excel throttle lock (replaced), rt turn signal lens scratched (replaced), top rt edge of small V-Stream windshield minor 1" long area was ground down 1/8" (sanded & buffet out). Everything I was wearing had to be replaced from head to toe. Per the promise, C3 Pro replaced by Schuberth for 1/3 retail w/ police report ($256).

Hello fellow ST riders. Just a bump to the question way back in this thread about Givi bars (TN355), or Kappa (KN355) fitting with Yamaha accessory crash bars. The Givi/Kappa bars in pictures look as if they reach around the Yamaha upper loop where they would connect together at the front of the cylinder head. They also look to clear the lower Yamaha cage at the mounting point of frame tabs at the rad. and the battery cover, they appear to share the same frame tabs. Although there is probably a conflict at the lower front rad. support tab. If that is the only problem then it may be possible to just remove the rad. support tab from one or the other.
I have found the Yamaha bars to provide decent protection for the engine cases, but not the upper plastic and have had to replace one rad. fan already.
I am aware of the Mastech and DS Protection bars from this site, but have not been able to get any useful info on those yet.
I look forward to hearing from anyone who knows anything about protecting the upper fragile bits while keeping the Yamaha bars for the lower.
Cheers Marsh

That's not a bump, that's a resurrection from the dead.

To answer your questions, yes the Givi fit with the Yamaha lowers and yes you may need to cut off the radiator mount from one or the other. Not always, but sometimes.
