Have any of you guys tried Cerakote? I use it on guns and it really looks good. The part will need to be removed, degreased thoroughly, and abrasive blasted. The coating is sprayed like paint, I use an Awata detail gun. Then it gets baked to set the coating. The only problem may be it cooks at 350 deg for an hour or so. This will require removing any plastic or rubber parts. The coatings are highly resistant to salt, dirt etc. It comes in a variety of colors. I have done some detail parts for a Mustang club and they loved it.

The best part is that once the part is coated you could spray it with acid and it won't discolor. It withstands up to 500 degrees, and has a better salt spray resistance than 440 c stainless. Anything that will stand the 300 degrees for an hour will accept this coating. Check it out at Cerakote.com

I dont worry about the headers. If you use it off road they will be nasty> I dont worry about cleaning them because the next trip the will be stained. Ride more worry less.

The headers are single wall stainless and will occasionally get cherry hot, so while you can temporarily polish them, don't put anything on them and don't expect them to stay looking new.

Most of the bright aluminum is powder-coated clear to prevent corrosion. The painted aluminum is also powder coated, which is why it's so tough. Unless you want to strip and can powder coat you won't be able to make things look OEM.

Our Parts Unlimited Rep brought me a sample of "Muc-Off motorcycle cleaner" big bottle with a pink colored liquid inside, can be sprayed as a foam or flip the cap and it sprays as a mist. Seems to take most of the dirt and gunk off bike without any scrubbing, heavy stuff may need a light brushing. Then using the Muc-Off motorcycle protectant afterwards. Tenere seems to use about Half the bottle for a good coating, I used to have those stains in my covers and I swear since using this combination of cleaners it has lightened them significantly.

Not that i endorse this company or anything I just like stuff that works and so far i have been impressed. Now as for polish for painted parts and plastic parts I use the Honda Spray cleaner & polish. Yamaha Spray cleaner seems to clean off bugs and stuff better but the Honda polish seems to produce a better finish, so I use both.

As far as removing the stains off the cases I have found nothing to take it off completely.
