whats the difference between a gen 1 and a later gen2 abs unit any body know

Just did a quick P/N comparison on Partzilla. Both the 2013 and 2014 models (1st & 2nd gen respectively) use the same part number: 23P-85930-19-00 for the hydraulic unit assembly. Not sure if that spans across all the years from both generations, but they didn't change it for Gen 2 in '14.
yer i thought the abs unit would not have changed you would think looking at part numbers a 2010 amd 2017 as example would be the same unit

I think we have established that the early ABS module was 23P-85930-09, the later ended 19, but there is doubt about backwards compatibility.
What is the issue with your bike though OP?
- I'm assuming the ABS light, but what codes are showing.
- If this has occurred after a fluid change, was the ABS pump cycled correctly.
- Has anyone tapped the brake light circuit electrics for any reason, or changed any of the hardware (wiring/switches/lamps/sensors) recently.
- Has the bike been in flood water, dropped, crashed or involved in any other accident.

The rear brake pedal doesn't function .
Bypassed the abs unit and now its ok.

The abs doesn't light.
It didn't occurred after fluid change.
Not tapped the brake wiring ect .
Wasn't in aflood.
Did not drop.
Thank's god no accident.
The problem is in a mates bike.
I had the same problem with same simptoms
And i solved it by changing the abs unit
After trying all the suggestions you'll mentioned her in the forum .

you have a bad ABS unit, no you cannot use a new one in place of the older one

Mine too, rear brake. Bypassed. Not ideal, loved the linked brakes.

Update
The 2017 abs unit is on the 2011 bike ,and the problem is fixed.
Both of the bikes are Europe models,
I don't know if there is any difference between the European model and the American models
i did think the abs unit was the same and a 2017 unit woulf fit and work on a 2011 bike nice well done
