Looking to pick up a 2104 tenere with 18000 miles tomorrow. I rode it today and have a question about the ABS light.

Every time the key is turned on or bike started the ABS light is on until you start riding. Is this normal?

Yes this is the normal self check procedure. If the light stays on once underway, there is a problem.

If I may follow up with another question?

Does the ABS light shine/flicker when the ABS is actively pulsing/working? Like the TCS indicator do?

I have slammed on my rear only brakes, trying to drag the rear wheel, but see no indication that the ABS is working.
I suspect my speed was too slow, never tried it faster than 30km/h, thought I felt the shudder of the rearwheel as the ABS would cycle, but was wondering if the ABS indicator light will also flicker?

No, I have tried to cycle the pump manually on the centrestand yet.

I too have a Gen1 bike and although the ABS is rarely triggered, I’ve never noticed it flash when it is in operation. TCS light I do notice when activated, so I guess I’d also notice the ABS.

No the ABS light does not flash when activated, it's different than the TCS light in behavior. Any time you see the ABS light illuminate (other than when first starting out) there is a problem with the system. You should be able to feel it modulating through the pedal and or brake lever though. You should not be able to leave a long skid mark. Maybe test it (carefully) on a loose surface?
