Greetings all. Has anyone used 90 octane ethanol free gas in their Super Tenere without any issues? I've owned mine since August and have only used premium Top Tier gas so far. There is a Quik Trip gas station near me (in San Antonio, TX) that has 90 octane ethanol free (they're a also a Top Tier gas station). I've used thier ethanol free gas in my Kawasaki 650s to great effect but would hate to cause any harm to the Tenere. Thanks for any input :)

No problem, ethanol free is a win win.
Ethanol has about 20% fewer BTUs than regular gasoline. So, you can ride a further distance on non ethanol gasoline. The Tenere calls for (see manual) 91 octane gasoline.
I'm in Canada and most of the premium gasolines, 91 octane are free of ethanol.
We had a great day up here in Ontario Canada with temperature of 17C or 62F. Incredible for this time of year.
Sadly, I rode my new Tenere, well it's now a 2020 Honda Africa Twin DCT to winter storage late today.

All info noted SHUMBA. Thanks for sharing! I've been adhering to the owner's manual (and service manual) to date but would like to get some pure gas going Congrats also on your AT acquisition. I've ridden the manual and the DCT. Great bike and I imagine LOTS of fun in Canada

I don't think non-ethanol is bad for any engine. All engines can use the 10% ethanol, but only certain engines can use the E-85. If that gas was available here. . . . that's all I would use; for every motor/engine I have. For two reasons. 1) It's non-ethanol. 2) You're not getting a hose worth of regular gas when you're paying for premium.

You can do it. Its not going to harm your engine.

I happen to have access to 92 eth free, so that is what i run all winter. I would rather run 90 eth free than 92 with ethanol in the winter.

What you really dont want to do is run 89 in combination with a high heat environment and wot throttle. That will get you engine ping.

I've tried every kind of gas out there. I can't tell any difference. I run reg ethanol. My bike pinged one time when it was new.
The only reason i run it in the winter is that ethanol is hygroscopic and that isnt a good mix with the potential for condensation and infrequent riding.

That little bit of octane difference is not going to matter. For sure, go with non-ethanol if you can. I get better MPG with it, but I have to ride 10 miles to get it. For Winter storage, I'll use it for sure. I use it in my yard tools too, the chain saw damn near won't start with ethanol, but non-e it fires right up. Snow blower too, really wants non-ethanol. So now I have a 5 gallon jug of the good stuff in my garage, I have used it in the bike when I didn't feel like taking the 10 mile ride to the magic gas store.

I prefer to use premium fuel, here in Wisconsin premium usually does not have ethanol in it. But have also used regular with ethanol when premium wasn’t available and never noticed any difference. I think the ethanol horror stories are greatly exaggerated.

Cycledude- check your sources, I would be very surprised to hear Wisc. has different premium then the rest of the US. Unless you have found an outlet that does it differently. Chance are, your premium has 10 percent like everything else. Other additives help with octane. If they were selling non-ethanol, they would say so on the pump.

The only fuel that I've used that I know is different, is Shell Premium. Over a about an eight month period, the Charger I was driving went form 15mph to 18.5mpg. Also, the throttle response, and performance improved a bunch. It advertises that it will make your car run like new. It did. Otherwise, I agree. . . . gas is gas.

I'm a constant user of 87 - 10% in my 2012 Tenere.
In certain circumstances I do run some Premium in it.
Like Gunslinger said above, "high heat environment and wot throttle " It need better fuel.
I also usually just put in Premium non ethanol in the 2017 Tenere because it sits around a lot more," Like all the time until my wife wants to go for a ride" And with the temps dropping that is most of the winter now.

There are quite a few gas stations around here that advertise 91 octane premium that is 100% gas with no ethanol. It's a big seller for not only motorcycles, but for boats and snowmobiles too.

Boat docks and small airports are the easiest places here. I filled up today at a place that carries only eth free and it was four motorcycles and a 50s chevy 5 window at this place lol.

I bought some 91 octane ethanol free this morning at a local Kwik Trip, $2.49 a gallon. 87 octane regular with 10% ethanol was $1.79.
