600 mile service & beyond: Dealer service or do-it-yourself?

Damn right, it is. But at least those Yamaha guys earned their price, they did an excellent job! That is to say that so far I have not had to be disappointed with the Yammy dealers in Europe, at least not in regards to quality and experience.
+ here too in USA!!

Nothing but outstanding service from all the Japanese bike dealers over the years. Very thorough and detailed work. I also have some independent mechanics I go to that match the dealerships pride in quality service.

You just have to laugh. Post on HD site guy railing about Stealerships and never going to have them touch his bike. Next post wants to know how much damage or how to fix a plug that the shop manual clearly depicts and told you multiple times never to remove. And the post here about the guy that Bought the late model low mile used bike with owner maintenance. And the rear Differential is toast at the tune of 3k. My heart goes out to him. But I told my wife that’s why I’m the stupid and buys new. Not worth the heartache to buy used and end up spending new money. My dealer Experiences haven’t been perfect. But my own attempts haven’t been either. And dealer always made it right.

What caused the final drive to go out? Why did it cost 3K? ( you can buy them brand new all day long for $1K and replace one in 30-40 minutes) Why are you laughing and just what is your point?

Bolts not torqued properly. Poster said 2900 to fix . I’m laughing at all the expert shade tree online hacks that want to run dealer techs in the ground. When they screw up more than anybody just talk a LOT BS on line.. where there’s no verification on their work. That’s my point!

So have you been able to identify the "expert shade tree online hacks" in this thread that are talking a lot of bs? What are the signs you look for? Is your ability to judge others skills based on your own imperfect attempts as stated above to work on your own bike?

Lol... feeling but hurt?
Time for a quick rules reminder...personal attacks are not allowed on the board. The anonymity of the internet cuts both ways, and while you may think the forum members are "expert shade tree online hacks", the fact is several of our members are mechanics. We also have machinists, engineers and other mechanically inclined members who willingly share their knowledge as well.

Absolutely not. After 45 years in the motorcycle industry I have a little bit of knowledge about what goes on around motorcycle shops. I was just trying to figure out what criterion you used to judge and laugh at others skills when you don't know them or know anything about them. It's no big deal so don't worry about it, I think I know where you're coming from. Have a good day.

Thanks for the reminder . I understand There are many qualified people here never said there weren’t but I gave examples of people who run other people into the ground then screw up themselves. That’s who I was talking about. Then I start getting attacked by somebody I never even referred to or know. I have done what I should’ve done before I responded to him .put him on my ignored List. works very well. I Will use it in the future. Thanks for the great resource.

Everyone's own opinion is coloured by their own experience, be that with service departments, government offices or whatever. It's human nature to be cautious or even berate that 'business' based on a personal experience. I have had both, but I tend to not trust as much anymore, that I cannot help.
You don't have to like someone's opinion or view, but you do have to accept that it is their's.
